I'm getting married!

Contributor: Cookie Monster Mike Cookie Monster Mike
Well if you haven't already figured it out, or seen me talk about this somewhere on Eden before, I am engaged to be married. I have never officially announced it before but hey figured I would.

The date is set for August 18th! Almost here!

We have been together for over 3 years, engaged since last Christmas!

How many other members are currently engaged? How are you feeling about the whole thing, has it hit you completely yet? It has not hit me I don't think, other than stress steadily increasing.

Thankfully my fiancee is not crazy and wants all the bells and whistles ($50,000 type wedding) and is trying to keep it semi-traditional and more on a personal level with the people coming. Because of our location, (Public Enemies movie with Johnny Depp was filmed partially in our city), her sister owns a large bank building that is over 100yrs old that was used in the filming of public enemies. We are going to try have a small theme based on this era, having a lot of guests wearing that type of clothing. Should be fun!

Feel free to comment with your wedding experience, or engagement stories etc.

The vault downstairs is really the attraction, the door is huge, many feet thick! A lot of the building is very very old down stairs, thankfully the guests will be situated upstairs in the large open room.

Awwwwww how exciting!! Congratulations and felicitations. I wish you all the best, you and your lovely fiance.
Sounds like your wedding will be most memorable and I hope only the smallest and inconsequential things go wrong (you know cause something ALWAYS goes wrong)! Hopefully you will have a day filled with love and well wishes followed by many, many years of love.

Congrats! I've been with my boyfriend for 3 and a half years, but we probably can't get married for another two. It sounds like you have a wonderful theme. You two totally have to start a wedding registry on here so that we can send you fun things for your new life together!

Congratulations! What a neat idea for a location - it will probably be the most unique and memorable wedding your guests have ever been to!

Hope your wedding day goes off without a hitch and I hope your marriage is a happy and healthy one. Best wishes to you both!

(Have you thought about registering here at Eden? Just a thought! )

Haha wow I feel silly. While she does not quite enjoy all the sex toys nearly as much as I do (weird I know) I did not think of registering at all. Hmmm ponders that thought! I may just have to create a list of things and put that up lol.

Thank you all for the lovely comments! I just hope many of the guests are willing to participate and dress up for it. I went to a Halloween wedding a couple years back and only one third of the guests (including my fiancee and I) dressed in costumes at the reception.

Thanks Ryuson and Indiglo for the idea on the registry.

Congrats! My wife and I got married after a really long wait going to different colleges and even being in different states for two years after that. It's a miracle that we made it

That's really great that you both worked things out and made it work though rather than giving up a great thing. Congratulations

Due to suggestions, I have added a registry here Wedding Gift Registry

Feel free to suggest any ideas, toys etc I could add that would be fun to try as a couple.

Congrats! Sounds like a grand wedding for sure. You're pretty close, might have to stop by just to see. lol

I love the dress up idea, my good friend had a renaissance type wedding. I was so bummed I could not go. He even made a suit of armor.

Are you in Wisconsin or just close by, like Minnesota etc? Suit of armor wow that does sound like fun! I like weddings that are unique like that. The over done ones you see in movies just really don't do anything for me.

Lol that sounds fun! Also thank you and to everyone else! One thing I have learned in the whole process so far is that wedding planning is usually only as stressful as you make it on yourself. Her mother is seriously over-thinking way to much when trying to help. She always wants to change something, or suggest we change something even though we are happy with it.

Wedding planning can be the pits. Just keep reminding yourself that when it comes to daughters, moms kind of want a "do-over" for the mistakes they feel they made in their own ceremonies. It's still your day and no one else's. Do what you want and ignore the rest.

I'm sooo looking forward to it. It's going to be the first cool thing I've done for my birthday. Why, yes...I am spoiled (by my husband).

Congratulations Mike and fiancee!

I hope everything goes well. A Gangsters and '30s wedding? Fun! I LOVE the 1930s and the whole gangster era. (I think most Chicagoans do.)

You'll probably get a 25-40% compliance rate on the dress up theme. A lot of older people won't and some people don't have the right kind of clothes. It sounds like fun to me, though.

A funny story, kinda. My Man and I were leisurely planning our wedding (OK, I was planning the wedding, he was nodding his head. We were engaged, I graduated college and then after some months, I found out I was pregnant. We had to plan a wedding in 6 weeks. His parents wanted us to have a "secret" wedding, probably so they could lie and tell people the baby was early or somesuch shit. I refuse to lie about stuff like that, so everyone knew I had a bun in the oven. We had a beautiful wedding, I wore a nice, elegant bridesmaid dress (much less expensive than a regular wedding dress. Plus, I'm so tiny that lace and beads and puffs and all the stuff that was common on wedding dresses when we got married was too much for me.) We had a beautiful wedding (even though his mother pouted the entire time and his father refused to wear the matching tuxedo that the men in the wedding party wore. *sigh*) and everybody remembers it to this day. "It wasn't overdone. Just right." most people say. We had a blast and years later we still are having a blast.

I wish you and your woman only the best. Treat each other like every day is your wedding day and every evening and morning is your honeymoon. Don't be afraid to say "I'm sorry." even if you KNOW you're "right." and Love Love Love Love. The wedding is fun and a good "rite of passage" but it's only one day. You two have the rest of your lives together.

Have a great wedding and even more, have a wonderful enduring marriage.

His was more like chest armor made of 3" disks of stainless, sort of like chain mail and he had upper leg armor. He also wore a Bastard sword. lol He wore that over a burgundy Tunic with black tights. She wore a wench outfit complete with bodice and a flower head dress. The pastor wore a monks rob. Like I said, I am so bummed I could not make it.

Upper Michigan, eh?
