Blogger or Wordpress?

Contributor: MrSinister MrSinister
I prefer blogger, simply because of the user interface. And the hosted domain not costing me extra money.

Maybe one day I'll switch to wordpress, but not today.

I voted for Blogger just because I don't want to pay for more designs and special customization on Wordpress... But I would use it if there were more options for free.

I prefer blogger because it's really simple to use. I haven't used Wordpress, and while I've heard it's better, blogger is much simpler (for me anyway)

I'd be scared to use wordpress if it deletes adult content like the responses have noted.

I use tumblr. It is easy to meet other bloggers who share your passions and it is easily customizable which I like.

Wow, I had no idea WordPress was so restrictive. I'll keep that in mind when starting future blogs.

I use Paid Wordpress. It looks more professional to have a domain. Wordpress also has so much incredible widgets/apps that blogspot doesn't. Blogspot is great for new bloggers though.

For design of my templates I use a program called Artisteer and it was well worth it, and easy for new "designers" to use. even the most basic level designers! try it!

Wordpress also does WAY too many updates that you have to apply and if you dont apply them right they fuck EVERYTHING with your formatting up and there's no way to turn them off.

Blogger is much more user friendly

WordpressDOT com will but not DOTorg!

WordpressDOTorg is the ONLY way to go if you actually want to make money while blogging. On Blogger, Google owns all your content and can shut you down without notice. Their platform is slow, never looks clean and frankly, will get you nowhere.

WordpressDOTcom does not allow affiliate links of any sort.

WordpressDOTorg, you have to have your own domain name and hosting. A domain name is about $8 a year, and hosting you can get for as low as $3 per month. It is VERY MUCH worth it if you want to go ANYWHERE!

I greatly prefer the aesthetics of Wordpress. That being said, currently my main blog is on Blogger. Blogger just seems really clunky to me, and I really miss having easy hierarchical categories.

If you are going the self-hosted route, you should look at Octopress. Wordpress is great if you have the design expertise or are willing to shell out for a custom theme. But Octopress basically takes all the power of Jekyll and simplifies it into a simple Github fork or clone.
Basically you can take all the simple beauty of Githug pages and use it for some very non-Github posts (although I am sure there is a forking pun in there somewhere).
