#Holidays - Earth Day 2013: How are you making a difference?

Contributor: El-Jaro El-Jaro
Happy Earth Day!

Today is the 43rd Earth Day all across the world. They predict that upwards of 1 billion people are celebrating around the world.

You can get some ideas on being Eco-sexual with this little quiz.

Fun Factory wanted to pitch in too! We're doing a special just for them. Buy one of their selected products and they'll have a tree planted!

To celebrate, I'm staying on the planet all day and will be doing some composting later.

How are you helping out?

Happy Earth Day everyone!

Today, I'm eating left-overs and gathering up all my dead rechargeable batteries to be recycled.

I'm buying a tree later, and planting it in my yard! We have been doing this for the last 2 years. My daughter loves to help me.

That's awesome! She'll love that so much when she is a teen and can see just how much they grow, too.

Holy crap, I haven't gone through them in awhile but I came across an entire drawer full the other day and it turns out quite a few of them are in the 4-5 year old range and no longer hold much of a charge.

I went to a training last weekend and they served lunch with bottles of water and juice, and didn't recycle. So...I loaded up all the bottles and brought them home, and my kids and I dropped off two huge trash bags of bottles to the recycling center this morning. I get annoyed when big events don't make recycling possible. So...that's my Earth Day contribution!

Happy Earth Day!

We took the cans in to be recycled. Scary how aluminum cans pile up

We went and cleaned up a party/camping area in the forest after work. Holy hell--teenagers can be such pigs!!! And yes it was teens, we saw them partying last night on our way out of walking the dogs.

We are constantly doing what we can year round, this includes recycling and picking up trash when we see it on the ground outside anywhere. I also always cut up my 6-pack rings so animals don't get stuck in them should they find them.

I built a 6 foot by 14 foot dividing wall in our basement entirely out of salvaged wood and scraps (started Sunday, finished Monday).

I've been having that problem as well with my rechargeables not holding charge. I had to buy a whole new set of 8 AA the other day so I could have some on hand.

I walked to work instead of taking the bus and re-used some wipe-alls (for sopping up water only) since my department goes through a ton of them.

She is going to be a plant and tree lover like her mom.

I want to get a weeping cherry tree next year.

If you celebrate the Earth we live on everyday only once every 365 days, I think you have some catching up to do.

I'm gonna start a veggie garden in my back yard this year and water it using a rain barrel. It will help reduce the amount of pollution created when raising, harvesting, and shipping food in trucks from a farm, to a grocery store, to my house and it will reduce the amount of plastics and other packaging materials that need to be created to make sure the food gets to me in one piece and the amount of deadly poisons we create and spray on crops. It won't reduce it by much if it's only me doing this, but it's a start.
