that the Black FRIDAY shopping now starts on THURSDAY evening? That kinda pisses me off. I like to spend time with my family on Thanksgiving, now I gotta leave at 8pm to wait in line at Toys R Us. Blah.
Anyone else annoyed...

You don't have to do anything.
I think it's ridiculous, not because of them opening earlier for Black Friday but the fact that there's a Black Friday at all. If you sit down and think about it...if the retailers can afford to "discount" items so deeply one day a year, you're being screwed the rest of the year and that pisses me off.
Christmas isn't about toys and gifts and blowing the budget for next year.

I don't ever mess with it anyway so makes no difference to me.

i second Stormy. if it makes you mad, don't go out to shop. As much as a I love shopping and such, I would much rather stay at home and have dinner with my mom and dad. the sales are still going to be there in the morning, and if you do miss anything, you got cyber monday

I saw that some places were starting their Black Friday stuff on Thursday evening and wondered how long we had until there was no Thanksgiving anymore, and it was just Black Thursday and the whole weekend was one big sale. I don't have a problem with places opening at midnight or maybe even 11, but 8pm seems a little ridiculous to me.
I also agree that you don't have to do anything. If you'd rather spend the evening with your family instead of shopping, I say you should do that. Ms. Spice is right, the sales will still be there in the morning and there's always Cyber Monday for online shopping.

I hate Black Friday shopping. I'm not a fan of those kinds of crowds, and I've almost always been in retail, so it meant I was at work at three in the morning for a bunch of psycho harpies screaming at you because they didn't get a ticket for some tv or laptop, and that you are killing Santa because of it. It's like Charlie and the Pyschohouse Factory...
Not to say you are a harpie, of course, it's just that my "fondest" memories of those days are the harpies. It's hard to remember the genuinely nice people who were just having fun in all the commotion.

damn, i couldn't do anything after eating that much food, lol. the last thing i would wanna do is go shopping. i hate shopping right after i've eaten b/c i'm full & clothes don't fit right.

I haven't been able to play with Black Friday in years. Usually I am traveling and busy writing papers, and I get such a small amount of time with my family that I don't want to waste it braving the crowds. Not to mention that I rarely have much money to spend and it takes so much time to browse the ads to find the best deals.... not worth my precious time around the holidays. I will do online deals, though, because they are not quite as time-sensitive, and I do love a good bargain when I don't have to camp out to get it.

Generally, I kind of hate shopping anyway. Crowds, noise, hot stores. Especially this time of year. Ugh! I much prefer online shopping, where I can comparison shop, check out reviews, etc.

Thursday and Friday both have always been family days for me. I think, growing up in a rural area, we didn't even know that we weren't participating in some huge sale event... but now that I know Black Friday exists, I still just sit at home with people I care about and drink tea and tell and listen to stories.

I get annoyed when Xmas rears its commercialized head before Halloween. I used to get annoyed before Thanksgiving, but have come to accept this.

Actually I do have to go out..im a single mother with not alot of money so if i can get adeal on something my kids wanted I go,but im never mean or inconsiderate to others and am not a die hard thats there hours before the store opens! And it does suck they are opening so early..I agree 10 or 11 would be more appropriate, but I heard on the radio that they did a consumer survey on it and it said people voted more that they would prefer to shop at nite the nite before than so early in the morning.

It is pretty crappy.
But they do what they can for more business.

Yes, it is annoying I mean when will it stop: 2012 Thursday night; 2013 Thursday afternoon; 20?? Black Friday starts in September, Thanksgiving commercials in June; Christmas commercials on December 24th of the preceding year.
11/23/2011
No, because I am not doing any Christmas shopping. I either knit or crochet my gifts and I have all of the yarn that I need to make my gifts.
