Anything special for anniversaries??

Contributor: Mamastoys Mamastoys
I was just wondering if you guys do anything special for your anniversaries?
We usually go out for dinner and spend the evening together but this year will be the big 25 years. We are planning a trip to Vegas. I'm really excited. I've had several people tell us we shouldn't spend that kind of money with the economy the way it is..but we are lucky to still have each other after hubby's heart problems. We have all our bills paid and have saved up for this special trip so we don't feel guilty about going.
Just wondering what everyone else has done to celebrate and anyone got any good ideas for our trip.

If you can afford it than do it. Just because the economy is in a slump doesn't mean you guys should deny yourself any fun or luxury- it's optimal for our health and our sanity to treat ourselves every once in a while and if you have the money now than by all means do it.

When we lived in our last state we had people to babysit our son, this state we don't. BUT when we did have babysitters he'd always reserve a room at hotels. Our first year he chose a big Victoria bed and breakfast (talk about romantic!), the owner left champagne and strawberries on a silver platter under the big canopy bed. There'd be a fireplace. Oh, and for breakfast she made everything from scratch. It was really fantastic and surprisingly affordable...

For the VERY last anniversary in our old state he upped the ante. He got us a room at this phenomenal historic hotel downtown. Our room was beautiful- it had a jacuzzi, an enclosed shower- the bathroom was awe inspiring. The bedroom had a California King down mattress, Victorian styled furniture, and a view of their gorgeous garden. It was a packaged deal- next door they had a salon so we did a couple's massage and we walked around downtown. We had dinner at the hotel- literally the best meal of my life. Roasted duck with cherry and arugla salad, my husband had lamb, oh and the sea scallops were to die for. We had something on the menu for desert but it wasn't as memorable. The concierge came to our room around 10 and brought champagne and cheeses, then we went for a walk down to the comedy club. The total bill for everything literally made my jaw drop but it was so worth it as I still gush about it years later.

These last few years in this shitty state we've just gone out to dinner with our son in tow. I think my husband took me shopping last year, not really my ideal day but as long as I could spend it with him I didn't care. Next month is our anniversary so I'm curious what he can pull out of his bag of tricks.

If you buy anything I seriously recommend - link

Vegas is awesome! Just enjoy every little moment. Congratulations!

If you consider another romantic trip I suggest Cloudcroft NM, there are casinos nearby, it is very small and cozy, the people there at every business I have visited go out of their way to make you feel welcome. There are hotels that are gorgeous, and great places to eat but they are all locally owned. No big name chains at all. The personal service you get there is unmatched. It is honestly one of the most beautiful places I have been year round.

Seconding the Cloudcroft rec! I'd love to go there for a getaway soon. Everyone is so kind and generous there.

I just wanted to congratulate you on your 25th anniversary!!! The two of you must be excellent at everything it takes to make it work: communicating, compassion, compromise! All the "coms" Seriously, that's inspiring. I hope you have a wonderful trip! Congratulations!

Thanks for the comments. I'll tell him we're going to Cloudcroft for our 26th!! LOL
We are each other's "bestest" friend and we do most things together. It's not always been this easy- when we got married, he was a package deal with a 4 year old daughter- now OUR daughter. It wasn't easy not having him to myself at first but now that it's just the two of us, it's like starting all over again but knowing each other much better!
We're not going until May but will post an update when we get back!
Thanks again..

Congrats! We'll be celebrating our 4 year anniversary next week. Plans got changed in a hurry due to out-of-town relatives coming up for Thanksgiving. We normally have dinner an a more expensive than usual restaurant and the venture off to a new city.

We are planning a trip to Asheville, NC in February for our 8th anniversary. We were debating on renting a cabin or staying at this really gorgeous bed and breakfast. We chose the bed and breakfast because of all the extras like couples massage, romantic carriage rides, tickets to the Biltmore, the purple Victorian inspired room. Oh it's gorgeous!

We're doing sort of a recommitment ceremony. Not in front of people, but writing our own little vows to each other and making new promises.

Just enjoy yourselves! Take along some romantic things and have fun. =)

I hope you guys have a blast.

Hm, well, tell the people who are complaining about the economy that by spending money, you'll be helping! And have a great time

Unfortunately my relationship is a little hectic because I'm away for college, so we're not often together on our anniversaries

I feel ya there. Not being together for anniversaries is really rough. We haven't had a single anniversary fall on a weekend since I left for college, so we just have to make do with the closest weekend. Since we're both in college, we've never been able to afford anything big; romantic gifts for each other and a nice dinner together, then a night in my little dorm room. Hopefully when we're married we'll be able to afford to go somewhere nice together.

Same here. Once we've shelled out the money for gas for the trip to see each other, there's not cash left for much else.

Just being together and going out for dinner is what we usually do. We aren't big spenders or travel a lot so we keep it pretty simple usually.

We plan on going away on a long weekend (3-4 days) trip this year.

We usually don't do much, if anything.
But if you have the money, go for it! Sounds like it would be very exciting.

sometimes, we really don't care much tho, we make as many days special as we can, way more than a few anniversaries

We go back and forth. One year we went out for a really fancy dinner and the next year we went to a pizza joint and a bookstore. Our first wedding anniversary's coming up so we'll probably try to do something special for that.
