Do you turn the lights off when you leave the house or go to bed?

I'm afraid of fires, so I turn it off when sleeping or if we leave the house, however long/short that may be.

On from sundown until about 12 am when I head to bed.

We've had a fire before so we're really paranoid about things like leaving on Christmas lights when we're sleeping. We turn them off whenever we're not home and whenever we're sleeping.

We leave our tree lights on instead of the front porch light when we go out. I turn them off when I head to bed.

Off, why waste money?

I love tree lights. They're so festive and cheerful. I have to have a fake tree because of allergies. Once I plug it in I pretty much leave it on. I think it looks nice from the outside of the house. If I remember in the am I'll unplug. Usally I forget.

I usually leave them on when we leave the house. We turn them off when we sleep.

im not 80 so i keep them up and on.

im afraid of fires but with the new leds im less afraid so i may keep them on this year

Off when I am not there

We leave it off unless we're home and awake. If no one is there to enjoy it, what's the point? You can't see ours from outside.

we turn them off when sleeping or away from home for along time.

My main reason for not wanting them on while sleeping is that I don't want them to burn out, and I can see the glare through the blinds in my bedroom window and it's annoying

We unplug EVERYTHING when we leave the house. Always have, my hubbies dad was a fire chief, so my hubby has certain things he has to do that his dad instilled in him.

My husband's father was a fireman and a fire chief and inspector, too. My husband is weird about what he thinks is "dangerous" in terms of electricity, candles etc. I usually ignore him. I turn off the tree at night, or if we leave the house and none of the kids will be home. But, I leave on the lights on the windows and around the doorways etc.
My Man's father also thought our fireplace was "dangerous." But, my husband uses that all the time. I think a fireplace (that hasn't seen a chimney sweep in 10 years) is probably more dangerous than a few strings of Christmas lights or a few candles.

Even incandescent Christmas lights are low wattage and cost virtually nothing to leave on.

I love driving around and seeing all the neighborhoods lit up. I want my house to look pretty. I don't want one of those "dark" houses at Christmas, so the few pennies it costs to leave the lights on are certainly worth it.
I have to say, I hate LED bulbs. They look like little TV sets, blue-gray and not very bright. I like normal Christmas lights.

I pretty much just meant the lights that are you your tree. We have lights on our house, too. They stay on until we go to bed. And we don't have the LED ones. I hate the coloring, too. So I pay extra in utilities. I think they have better colored ones out now?!?!?

When I was a child a friend of mine lost her house to a massive fire started by the Christmas lights on the house...I don't care if the technology has gotten better and safer I am paranoid. We just leave the porch light on.

Off. My husband is a little concerned about accidental fires (I blame 80's PSAs). I can't blame him, so we make sure that all of the lights and other unnecessary electronics are off or unplugged while we are gone.

Same here. If I leave the house after the sun goes down, I may or may not turn the lights off then too depending on how long I expect to be out.

I've never heard of a fire from outside lights (not that it's not plausible, of course). That's terrible!

I have my inside and outside lights set to a timer. That way I don't have to worry about them. They go on about 6:30 to about midnight, although Christmas Eve I keep them on all night.

I only leave them on all night on Christmas Eve. I do it for the kids.

I turn them off when I leave the house and when I'm sleeping.

Usually I'll turn them off when we are gone or when we go to bed but if we are just running out for slurpees or something else that'll only take a few minutes I'll leave em on.

I can't be bothered to decorate for Christmas this year, so I don't do any of the above.
