I usually work, and see my family the next day or that evening!

While the kids were growing up it was always travel to the family - a very trying time for me, but it gave the kids a connection to their families in the midwest/east.

Now we mostly stay home. My son is coming home from his USAF base in Texas - so we'll be enjoying being all together again. A welcome stay-cation

If I can, I try to visit the family for Thanksgiving. I don't celebrate Christmas any more, so no worries there (I'll probably be working again this year anyways). My immediate family has a Yule feast though, so I'll go to my mother's for that and she only lives a little over an hour away.
The older I get the more freedom I have for the holidays since I feel free to make my own holiday decisions. I've never liked the holidays much, so I always try to stay home.

My girlfriend and I run all over the place for the holidays - my mom and siblings on Christmas eve, open our presents at home Christmas morning, then to her parent's house for brunch with her extended family, then to my dad's for the afteroon/evening. And finally, a couple of days after Christmas we go to my grandmother's house to celebrate with my extended family. It's a lot of bouncing around, but it's so nice to see everyone near the holidays!

All of the extended family used to get together for Christmas, but then we moved halfway across the country. The rest of the family gets together, but we spend it with just the five of us. We would never travel for Christmas (that's wayyyyy too many presents that would need to move or not be opened until later) and at this point in time, I honestly just don't want to go out to visit out there. We've been several times there, only part of the family has visited here once. I feel they need to come out and visit us.

We drives ourselves crazy trying to get to all of our families on Christmas!! It is a stressful day for us. This year we will have been married for just over 3 months on Christmas so everyone wants to see us and pictures. We are planning to have Christmas at our house once we have kids.

Most of our families are local. We stay home and still visit with family and friends.
