Holy crap-I just remembered. Did you guys know that Sunday is my wedding anniversary?

They weren't talking about it in my area that I know of, I just read an article about that online.

In my area they have just requested that no one over age 12 go out.

I mean, there's definitely a few eggs out there.
But I've had to take younger kids out with me, being a high schooler and I still had fun dressing up and getting candy.
I didn't do anything wrong and I was never intimidating or rude.

I don't like seeing newborns being toted around as pumpkins and the parents raking in all the candy.

It only makes me sad when it's cold. Sometimes we have snow on Halloween.

I went Trick or Treating until I was 18! I had my first son by then, and since he was less than a year old I did get a lot of dirty looks but whatever. I don't think there should be an age limit at all! It does annoy me when teenagers come to the door without costume. I'm stingy with those ones

I still dress up every year and go out with my kids...

I think they are adorable as long as they are warm enough, which they usually are around here since they are in a snowsuit + a costume. I don't see many doing it. My son was 10 months when I took him out for the first time.

We had that issue come up and the township voted it down rather resoundingly. We al get together on Halloween downtown and have a giant party. Afterwards until 10 pm anyone is welcome to go trick-or-treating or stay and party! The fire department puts on a hotdog roast and we have soda and chips. The stores all decorate and give out TONS of candy while the town meets and greets. For a University town this makes it feel like such a small town. We look forward to it every year.

Gosh in our town and the other large town in the area the Center for Adult Care (our version of adult day care) gets all the residents that can dress up and leave the building (we have some bed bound patients) out trick-or-treating and there is no age limit! Everyone is glad to see the smiles and hear the excited laughter. We also have restaurants that will have cocoa or coffee available for the residents and staff members so they can warm up in a safe environment. It's a blast! Everyone should be able to have fun on Halloween regardless of age, it's a festival afterall.

There shouldn't be an age limit, but they should make it mandatory that kids wear costumes. I hate it when kids in regular clothes come to my door with a shoprite bag for candy. Trick or treating is supposed to be for kids in costumes. I don't care if your 21, just have a costume on and you'll get candy from me.

We always dressed up the kids even as newborns but we didn't get candy just showed them off. We did go trick or treating in a stroller but we had our first two 18 months apart so big sissy got candy and lil sis got shown off!

Now my two oldest are gonna go but they are taking lil britches with them. He can't eat the candy but too many people want to meet him in town. They are 12 and 14 and will be getting their own candy with a few pieces for Monkey (he's almost a year old...does it seem possible?) He's gonna be Batman...with his homicidal sisters!

I just heard about the possibility of fines today, and it's so freaking absurd! Out of all of the things we should be concerned about, the age of trick-or-treaters is the absolute last thing. In fact, we shouldn't even be concerned! It's absurdity, I tell ya. (And a way for the state to make more money.)

I definitely agree we could do ... more
I agree completely with the need for more happiness! In my opinion people are entitled to candy as long as they are willing to dress up and walk around the neighborhood for it. I went trick or treating well into high school with a group of my friends because it was fun just to have a chance to dress up and hang out.

I've never heard of that. Wow!

I know how I'd avoid the fine. "Show me your ID"..."I really am 12...I don't have an ID"

Yeah, I read an article from Baby Center (I get emails from them), and it was in the local paper here. I think 12 too young to cut off that wonderful part of a childhood. They need to stop this.

Yeah, I agree with that completely- You know, the mandatory costume thing. That would be a good law.

You're right, Kristi. I think that's probably the main reason the state's even doing it-for money. That's the part that makes me the angriest. All this unfairness-for greed!

Personally I don't think that there should be an age limit. Whenever older kids trick or treat at my house, I just make sure to only give them one or two pieces instead of one of the huge candy bars or a handful of candy like I do with the little ones. I love Halloween and think that anyone willing to dress up for it should at least get a little candy, no matter how old they are. I plan on letting my daughter go out trick or treating until she decides that she just wants to stay home and hand out candy.

Age is definitely not an issue for me. Limiting it and fining kids is just plain ole crazy. I WISH i could still go trick or treating

I did get irritated when I was getting my son ready to head to my mom's and then out and people knocked on my door. Trick or treating did not start until 4 and it wasn't even 3:30. Four is pretty early to begin with for trick or treating. They both just had masks on, didn't even bother saying a word, and when we got outside the one was driving. I did not have any candy since I was taking my son out early, leaving him at my mom's, and getting some sleep before I had to work.

I don't think there should be a limit, if anything, maybe 18. I don't want to see adults trick or treating, my teens are fine. Besides, how would this limit be enforced?

I don't care. Halloween is cool.
