I know I might catch flack for this, but I have absolutely no interest in watching the Olympics. I don't devalue what the athletes do, and recognize it takes much training and skill to compete at that level, but I have no desire to watch it. I think it's one of those things that I would find more exciting in person. Am I alone in this? Also, I'm making this anonymous, so I am the only one to fear ridicule...I want honest answers.
Does anyone else find watching the Olympics boring?

You should be ashamed of your self and run out of the country. Just kidding. Olympics rule but even I think they are boring at times. Just don't tell anyone.

Haha! I know, I feel kinda Un-American! Good for the athletes and the hard work they have done, but I just feel like its monotonous. I would love to watch a montage at the end of all the medal ceremonies...yeah...th e part where they give the medals and sing them anthems. That's when I like it. Maybe I just have a short atten...wait is that a Llama....

I don't mean to be rude, but it does bore me to death. However, most TV does. I like to be moving, doing things, being productive. I just don't get into the sports TV or Olympics, but that's OK. You don't HAVE to enjoy something. Can't help it if you just don't find something all that fun.

There should be a other option, of explain yourself. I find that I think the Olympics are boring, but my man likes to watch it and then for some odd reason I dont want to change the channel. lol

i havent watched the first game, cant say i've missed it, i find it funny some of the games they consider Olympic sports... i heard badminton was one (?) really?!?!?! LMAO my Mister is way into it tho and glued to tv all through it... yea i've been spending alot of time on EF this past week due to it LOL

I'm not a sports fan. I'll watch part of a Sox or Cubs game or even the Bears if my husband is watching, but I usually fade out and get bored.
I do like the Olympics, in small doses. It goes on because my husband likes to watch it. He ran track when he was a kid and likes the events. I get anxious watching, because I feel bad when the kids don't do well. I want them all to do their best performance.
I was never an athlete and can't relate directly. But, I get anxious and feel bad when they feel sad when they don't win. However, I think the "lose your entire childhood practicing, don't go to school, make few friends, have no time to read, play or just hang around and be a kid so you can spend 17 days at the Olympics and maybe win a medal" is kind of ridiculous. Kids need LOTS of experiences, and I think those who are pressured to engage in one sport as if their life depended on it suffer in the long run. I'd never let my kids spend their childhood in a Gym for any reason
I do enjoy watching, but I can understand how some would find it boring though. I don't think it's "Un-American." Some people just don't care for sports. It isn't a big deal if you don't like them.

I'm not a fan of the Olympics. Catch me during World Cup, and I'm planning my days around which matches I want to see. LOL Or, if there's an A's baseball game on, I'm glued to the set. But the Olympics? Nah, not so much.
08/06/2012
Thanks for the opinions guys! I also think its kind of ridiculous that badmittton and the trampoline are Olympic sports...just sayin...
08/06/2012
Never been into sports or the Olympics. I used to be an Oakland A's fan back in the day, but been too busy to watch them now.
08/06/2012
I think it all depends on the event. I definitely enjoy gymnastics and swimming during the summer Olympics. I don't watch other events, like table tennis, because those are boring to me.
08/06/2012
I only watch the mens gymnastics and pole vaulting because those are the events I was supposed to participate in this year but couldn't because of a trampoline accident =(
And I also watch whatever's on the TV at the gym I work at. I think it's pretty motivational when you're working out to see the olympians doing their best.

Yep. I'm bored too. I know it must be super exciting for the participants though.

Dear God YES! But then again, I find any sport boring to watch unless I'm there in person. If I'm at home and someone turns on sports, I pass out. I was SO happy when I met my fiance and he isn't football/basketball/ba seball crazy, but he does like hunting and outdoor/woodsy sports which are more boring on TV than any other sport. I'll go fishing but there is NO way you would get me in a tree stand out in the woods, sitting there for hours on end being quiet!
08/06/2012
I only watch some of the events, and yes it does seem boring if it's a competition I'm not interested in.
08/06/2012
We don't watch them.
08/06/2012
I prefer the winter games. The coverage is fairly lame overall...night after night of swimming. Not much variety.
08/06/2012
my husband turns it on right when he gets home from work...drives me nuts most of the time
08/06/2012
Hubs has been watching it non-stop while it is on and he is home. On work days, he turns it on as soon as he gets home.
Honestly I'm not a sports fan and was bored after a few days. The kids were really excited about it, but also became bored quickly.
I liked the swimming and the gymnastics, but even then I think it's because there are stories behind the athletes that make you want to cheer for them.
Fun fact: I confided to husband that *some* of the events seem to me more like skills than sports. He thought I was crazy.

I find some sports boring, but really enjoy watching others.

I actually love the Olympics! Watching someone win and the podium ceremony always make me want to cry.

I like to watch volleyball and track.

I have been watching it all week.
08/06/2012
I like to watch it, but obviously you can't watch all of it. I really only like watching certain events. I love watching fencing because that's what I used to compete in, and I love getting to see sports that I'm not all that familiar with like handball. A lot of the swimming and track events get pretty old to me though. It seems like they have a million heats.
My favorite though is the modern pentathalon. It's neat to see such a variety of sports performed by the athletes

It depends on the event that's on. I like watching the swimming and gymnastics the best followed by beach volleyball.

I fucking hate watching the olympics.. I fucking hate the fact that there are olympics.
And as if it wasn't enough, the olympics took the place of The Simpsons on tv so I don't even have some kind of comic relief...
