Should door to door tricker treating at the homes of "stangers" be a thing of the past?

We live in a pretty safe, secluded community and yet I see less and less kids going door to door every year. I cannot imagine how that would be in a less safe neighborhood.

Do you see less children "tricker treating"? Should it ... more
Last year we had a good number of trick or treaters... Not too many, but a good amount. I think that it's fine to an extent. If you know the neighborhood well or know there's nothing wrong with it, I don't see a problem.

I'll admit right now. I'm 23 and I still trick-or-treat. It's fun, and I enjoy it. My nephew who is four needs a supervisor if his Mum is working so I go with him. We go to houses with porch lights on or not a lot of freaky decorations (Auntie is easily spooked, no need to be spooking the kid too. LOL)

We see less and less kids come out every year as well as less and less people giving out candy. Our street only has 2 houses that give out candy, but almost every house on the street has kids and sends them out.

So people who have kids don't give out candy or treats? But they expect others to give to their children? That doesn't seem fair.

On our block, most houses do give out candy or treats (I say this because for years, I was "anti-sugar" and only gave out plastic spider rings, erasers or stickers. For years I made little packets out of crepe paper. I made them into pumpkins stuffed with goodies for all the kids. Kids would come to the door asking if I made "those little punkins again") Anyway, most of the people on our block have treats ready, but few children live here or Trick or Treat here.

It's my husband's birthday, and he loves freaking kids out and handing out treats. He was nearly in tears last year because there were so few kids who came around.

I've adopted the "turn off the lights and hide in the back of the house" theme for Halloween...it isn't that I'm mean and don't like the kids or anything, it's the greediness I don't appreciate! I understood it the first year we moved here...we got really "good" candy, but the following year when I got the "cheap stuff", they still came to the door 3 to 4 times!

For whatever reason, our whole block is popular...my in-law's house, not so much! They get 3 to 4 kids total every year! We've run through 2 or more Costco sized bags!

Yes, I think it's a thing of the past, though I don't really think it should be. Trick or treating never caught on in my city, with the police calling for a stop to it when I was about 9-10ish, but, personally, I don't mind it. Meant we'd have an excuse to get a box of Roses and eat the ones the kids left behind.
