Oh Halloween, do you dress up and go out to party (or stay in and party at your place), OR do you stay home and do the "hand out candy for kids that come to the door" thing.

Adults dressing up for Halloween...especially beyond doing it to scare kids at the door, is a VERY new thing. Probably less then 30-40 years old. Adult costume parties just didn't exist. Now we find ourselves invited to a dozen or more this year (we are having our own...sexy one). However, the thought is, if every adult is out partying, then houses are dark, and no one is home "handing out candy", like in the olden days. SO..which do YOU do?

I don't have any kids, and there aren't many around that are of trick-or-treating age. That means there isn't much point to staying home to give away candy. I'll dress up and go out with friends instead.

Our group usually has a big party at someone's house. It's always a good time!

I will either hand out candy and watch scary movies, or I've been known to occasionally take my younger cousins out. I actually prefer to go Trick or Treating myself either way, though!

My sister thinks Halloween is (or at least should be) a national holiday. Her entire neighborhood decorates. On Halloween night, everyone sets up in their driveways (tables with candy and "adult" foods/beverages). Some families have tables that are made to burn firewood for warmth. The adults move around visiting, drinking and eating with the others while the kids go around (supervised, always) and pick up their treats along the way. The kids aren't greedy and everyone has a great time. Last year my sister and wife were ugly witches--some of the younger children were frightened and cried, so this year my wife sewed up 4 clown costumes...my brother in law and I do not plan to wear the costumes, but we have fun also.

I have to say other, heres why. Im exactly 30 and I dont think there is anything wrong with staying home to give candy out to the kids and then going out to a party you can do both. I prefer to have a small blow it out party at my house while Im giving kids candy!

I stay home to pass out candy. I've never been one to party and I feel very silly dressed up in a costume, no matter how hard I try to find a good one. I've only been invited to parties in recent years, and it's always by my friends in the theater (which I'm not, so theater kids = EPIC part with awesome costumes) and I think that adds a heckuvalot of pressure. Thus, I cave and stay home every year.

This will be the first year I have a boyfriend at Halloween, and we would both like to use the holiday as an excuse to wear geek costumes (Doctor Who characters, Buffy the Vampire Slayer monsters, etc.). We'll see!
