I've noticed for years that Halloween costumes are much sexier for ladies than guys. even EF sells sexy costumes for ladies but I don't see any for guys. why do you think ladies Halloween costumes are more provacative then costumes for guys?

Dontcha know? All women are secretly slutty.
*rolls eyes*
The truth is, sex sells and it sells well enough that it's a multi-billion dollar industry. I really don't pay attention to stuff like that. If I find something that I think is distasteful, I just don't buy it.

I've definitely noticed this, especially being on a college campus. When I look at costumes, I would love more options than looking like a stripper or swimming around in a costume made for men. Why aren't more modest costumes that are also flattering available?
That being said, sexy costumes do have a place. There are a lot a women who look forward to the opportunity to be sexy on Halloween, and I fully support that choice. I just wish there was a wider range of options available for women.

I think they are because its what sells.

Men will only wear things that are so provocative while most people want to see women in the smallest outfits possible.

Because in a patriarchal society, the female body is considered the sexier of the two main genders, and is therefor encouraged to be put on display as often as possible. As long as it's under a certain size.

I feel like women are sexualized so much more in our society and a man in a super sexy outfit is "funny" not sexy usually
10/17/2012
You can just do more with female costumes. You can fit them to show off your chest, your ass, your legs, etc. I'm not sure how much companies could do for a males costume to make them sexier.
10/17/2012
Well yeah, just go out and look at them. Even the "scary" ones are sexy. Though I have to admit I did love the female Chucky and Freddy Kruger but I already ordered a costume from here.

because everyone finds women sexy! Seriously though, how do you dress a guy up in a sexy fashion? Women's clothing comes in infinitely more varieties than men's. Other than naked or a suit, there isn't really a whole lot of ways to dress a man sexily.

because women are more likely to wear something sexy than a man would

I think it's because there's just so much more variety in women's clothing than men's. More options so more inventory?

Depends what you mean by "provocative."
If by that you mean trying to highlight sexualized features, it's cuz that's how women's bodies are portrayed is as sexual objects, here anyway.

I think that they're provocative because that is what sells. Women with more average body types still choose to wear sexy costumes as they usually receive positive reactions. Males with less than stellar physiques don't often get the same attention when dressed sexily if they can't "pull it off," so to speak. They may, however, get attention when dressed humorously or very creatively, and thus this is a clear choice for the average male.

If guys' bodies were more objectified in western society there would be more similar male costumes.
02/24/2013
Because we as a culture objectify women and make women want to be objectified because it means they get attention. It's horrible and wrong but that's the way we work as a culture.

Men are all about the eye candy. I don't think showing your chest off in a Halloween would be really that sexy for most guys. Please just keep the non-sexy outfits for guys please!

this is a very good point. But while "sex sells" a lot of it has to do with the sexualization of women's bodies being a norm, which is why even halloween for children are getting more and more "racy" when it comes to the types of costumes there are. SecondStorybring up a good point, since the media portrays this ideal body type and the over sexualization of women's bodies we tend to objectify ourselves as it becomes a norm (see statistics on little girls views of the own self image and its horrifying). Self objectification leads to so many other horrible things such as increase rates of anxiety, depression and eating disorders, but it's so profitable for many companies to make money of this, even food industries. There has been in increase in self objectifying behavior in men, but it has less to do with what is considered sexy but rather what we perceive as masculine in the media.
