While not an official holiday or anything like that, I am considering making today, August 3rd, 2010, my own personal holiday, as today is the first time I have had a weight beginning with a 1 since I was eleven years old. I had gastric bypass surgery last November, after I worked my way down from 331 lbs. (last April) to 286 lbs. (my weight on the day of my surgery).

Today? 199.6 lbs. I admit it, I cried.

Is there anyone else here who has had gastric bypass surgery? I'd love to get to know you and hear your experience!

CONGRATULATIONS, Jenn! That is FANTASTIC!!! That is a good reason to cry in joy!

My mother had gastric bypass (full blown: took out part of her intestines and most of her stomach) back in 1992. It saved her life - her doctors told her she'd be dead by 40. She's now 56 and still kicking around, and is smaller than her sisters who were models.

Congrats to you!! Tell us... has this opened new doors for you. I have many pounds to shed as well and I love to hear inspirational stories! I know even with GB it is still a challenge.

I bet your mom is feeling great! I know that gastric bypass isn't as drastic these days, they took just three feet of my intestine and left my old stomach, though it's just sutured to my abdominal wall, doomed forever to do nothing haha.

It has done so much for me. I feel so much more energetic -- I have energy that I didn't realize I was lacking before. I run around more with my kids, I can actually *run* without feeling like I'm about to fall over and die, etc. Our sex life has improved dramatically.

Don't even get me started on how fun it is to shop for clothes, now that I can shop anywhere and actually run into clothing being too BIG, as opposed to too SMALL.

And just two weeks ago I went to an amusement park and rode all of the roller coasters -- something I haven't been able to do since 1999.

Gastric bypass is a dramatic life change, but it's well worth it, in my opinion. I have lost a total of 131 lbs., and I have just another 39 to go!
