Who still does their kids' candy checks nowadays?

I check every single piece even though I live & trick-or-treat on a military base and it isn't a big concern. Anything with a tear or slit, open wrapper, any loose candies (not in a closed wrapper), and anything that looks like it might have been unwrapped and rewrapped goes into the trash.
We discard about 2 dozen pieces a year per child.

I always check over each piece myself, but I've never taken it anywhere to be checked. Not sure about here, but in the city I used to live in, the children's hospital encouraged parents to bring their kids' candy in to be x-rayed after trick-or-treat was over. They had a set time to do it, but I don't know anyone who ever went.

I kinda glance thru it all and look but my kids get antsy and just want their candy. plus there are so many ways to put things into candy now like with needles that you would never know and not many ppl have the money to go and poison a bunch of kids now a days.

The only place we take our kids trick-or-treating is the local supermarket chain, which dumps the candy directly from the bags. (I've worked for the company for the past 8+ years, and know that it can be trusted.) That said, any ripped/torn wrappers are tossed anyway.

In the entire history of Halloween candy, there are only two documented cases of tampering or poisoning, and in both cases it was the parents who did the tampering.
But I don't have kids, so I don't have to worry about it anyway.

Exactly. Just an urban legend for the most part.

I don't check, for the reason that Toy Geek mentioned above. I may glance through, just to make sure all the wrappers are on, but other than that, the kids get a free for all, at least for a day or so.

This is how I feel about the situation--I don't have children yet, but I don't intend on checking their candy religiously. Those "razor in candy" myths are just that--myths. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I don't have kids myself, but we have a whole after trick or treating ritual where we dump all of our candy on the floor and sort through it, pulling out anything that isn't wrapped properly or just looks shady.
