How have you improved as a reviewer?

Contributor: Adriana Ravenlust Adriana Ravenlust
I just got a comment on and older review.. I realized my review and rating seemed to be clashing. I think before I was almost afraid to rate something badly, even if I didn't really like the item. My line of thought was "what if this just didn't work for me and it works for someone else? I wouldn't want to steer them away." I'm not reluctant about that at all anymore.

Of course, I want to improve more. I hope to make my reviews a bit more personal as it seems they might be lacking in that way.

But how have you improved as a reviewer?

Would that have been me?

I'm not sure if I've improved, but I'm going back to a lot of my older reviews and improving them somewhat. Part of it is adding a bit more personality while maintaining the tone of the initial review, but especially on the old reviews- Eden edited them. Now that I have more control, I don't like their edits. It's a lot of work to look at each review though.

I've improved in that my vagina can actually handle things! I was so embarrassed for my first review when I couldn't even insert the toy far enough to take advantage of the clit stimulator (it was a rabbit). It hurt too much. But now I rule and have even used 1 3/4" diameter toys.

Of course, I think my writing is a little better, but probably not much.

I don't think I've gotten much better, either way, but I've only been pestering this community and site for a few months (just a wee bit over three), so I have plenty of room to grow, yet.

Since I was recruited to the much maligned Description Project, I've had to shift my reviews over to being intensely informational, and I find that fascinating. It's interesting trying to condense all that information into a readable pile.

I think I've improved more as a person, than a writer and reviewer. I'm starting to feel fearless, and want to integrate this unapologetically sexual side of me into every aspect of me. It kicks ass.

I'm less inhibited about posting re:my personal experiences.

I've learned to make judgment calls, when a toy doesn't work I don't force myself to like it. I've been here over a year (woot!) and I've certainly become a more informed reviewer. Especially when it comes to materials, I've become a little picky in that respect as well.. I never knew about all these cancer causing chemicals but now I can tell you what materials to stay away from and what materials to embrace.

However, I'm still a salesman, I always work on selling people on particular aspects. I just can't shake that. With the negatives I always have to have a positive even if the toy doesn't have one, it's a curse.

*Laughing uncontrollably* I've improved as a reviewer because my vagina can also handle 'more'. I couldn't help pissing myself over such a true and funny statement.

Haha, I've also improved in many ways I think - I know a lot more about the sex toy community in general, materials and safety and all that. I also feel like I actually have the ability to speak honestly now. Like you Adriana, I was hesitant to write bad reviews at first. And like Epiphora, my body had to work its way up to the toys it can handle now ;P

I do not use very many insertable toys so I wonder where I am in relation to what I can handle. Hehe

My vagina can handle more, yet I still prefer the smaller toys. My boyfriend has now taken over most of my silicone dildos.
