Avatar: The Last Airbender/The Legend of Korra

Anyone here like Avatar? I was a fan of the original series and I recently saw the first two episodes of the Legend of Korra, and it looks awesome! The animation has really improved a lot.

Is anyone else looking forward to that series?

The basic premise that there are people called "benders" who control one of four elements: fire, water, air, or earth. The people who were part of the Fire Nation became power hungry and wiped out all the air benders, plunging the world into a 100 year long war. The only survivor of the genocide was the young Avatar. The Avatar can control all four elements and is the link between the mortal and spirit worlds. So basically, kung-fu Jesus.

The Avatar then has to master all four elements, defeat the leader of the fire nation, and restore balance to the world. The Legend of Korra takes place 70-80 years after the events of the original series and follows the new Avatar, who is a water bender.

Hope that wasn't tl;dr, haha.

o.o Oh man...I totally forgot that was coming up, I'll have to set it to series on our DVR.
I watched every single episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender so I was pretty excited they made a 'sequal' of sorts.

been watching it too, i love the steam punk 1920's feel (especially the narrator).

Any thoughts on who Amon is? my theory is that its Aang's son who doesn't bend. After growing up the son of the avatar, the water bender who helped save the world and dealing with his brother the second to last airbender, he snapped.

Yes he had the story about the benders who blackmailed his parents, but that could have easily been a lie.

that's a really good theory.

I know that the guy (can't remember his name) that is the water tribe council member is involved. I don't know how or how deep his allegiance goes, but he's definitely a bad guy.

I still haven't seen it. Is it bad enough to be campy good, or mediocre bad, or so terrible there's nothing redeeming at all?

I've been having a discussion about avatar genetics with my gf. here are our topics so far.

1. should aang, tenzin and his kids (when they're old enough) have/have had concubines in order to repopulate the air benders? we both say yes.

2. as there will never be another person who is 100% airbender, will it eventually be diluted out of the bloodline? put another way, would someone who is 1/100000000000th airbender still be able to airbend?

3. would bending be a recessive trait, dominant trait, or somewhere in between?

4. the creators need to make a chart explaining Mendelian genetics in avatar!!!!

1. I agree.
2. It seems as if it's a 50/50 shot anyway. Especially since Aang and Katarra had a child who could not bend at all, I think possessing the ability gives you a 50/50 chance to produce another bender of your element. Case in point, why is the Avatar line not a blood line?
3. I think it's a recessive trait. How else would two benders produce a non-bender.
4. That would help.

but katara's parents were nonbenders. if it as recessive, two non benders shouldn't create a bender. Also, for the avatar blood line to paraphrase sokka (because I don't feel like looking up the quote) "that's avatar stuff, it doesn't count."

Unless the recessive gene goes back a generation or two. Her grandmother was, right? As in, it was dormant.

new (possibly horrible) question:in their world, would/could blood bending be used for abortions? perhaps not even blood bending, just bend the embryonic fluid?

yes, my mind goes to odd places.

I don't even want to think about that. But sounds like someone should start writing fanfic
