Avatar: The Last Airbender/The Legend of Korra

after watching the latest episode, I like the show, but see a serious problem: it moves too fast. It's only supposed to be 26 episodes long as a series and I feel it's going much too fast.

Spoilers from previous episodes

Consider the 6th episode where they enter the finals of the probending game. The probending was introduced 4 episodes prior and it's the finals already? it seems like it would have been much more dramatic if more time had been allowed to pass between episodes and let the tension build. show them worrying about the finals, training for it, possibly breaking down. remember in the first series where aang almost had a breakdown over the invasion? that was set up perfectly. this, not so much.

Spoilers episode 7

Or in episode 7 where Soto is revealed to be working for the equalists. this would have been a far more dramatic reveal if more time had been passed before his introduction and the reveal. we only knew him for three or four episodes and knew almost nothing of his past. without a personal connection with the character, the betrayal meant nothing.

overall, it's a good show, but is moving too quickly. B+

SPOILER ALERT! Don't read if you haven't watched and plan on it. SPOILER ALERT!

Real quick, because I have to get to class...

Korra joined Bolin and Makko's team right before they started the championship. She played their last couple of games before it was time for the finals, so it makes sense that they did the tournament already. There was also talk of some time having elapsed in between episodes 2, when it was introduced, and 5 when Korra joined the task force.

My theory about Sato being part of the Equalists is that Asami is going to end up a traitor as well, and she is playing a part. The betrayal/connection won't be from Sato to her, but from her to Korra/Makko/Bolin/Tenz in.

Also, Beifong is (just as her mother was) my character and I'm excited to see where this goes and what she does now that she is working outside the law.

And the "NOT MY CABBAGE CORP!" line has officially made this show for me!

yes, "not my cabbage corp" was an awesome line.

Even if the time was elapsed. that doesn't change the rushed feeling. I get that they were pretty far in the tournament when korra joined, but that doesn't mean there couldn't have been some more episodes in between. Not filler episodes, but characterization episodes, side quests, more air bending (that's the whole reason she's in republic city, yet we rarely see her train) or equalist episodes that stretch the time between joining the team and the finals.

If Asami is the traitor then that will prove my point, strengthening the relationship between the main characters and by extension the viewer, with a character before a betrayal will make it stronger.

Again, I do really like the show, it just feels like they're trying to do too much to soon, I wish they had doubled the episodes and slowed down a bit, like in the first series.

I've really enjoyed the new series. I don't think they're moving too fast at all. The original series was great, but it did lag in a few places, especially chapter 2. They are still setting the story, really. They've really only just got into the Equalists. We'll see where they go from here.

Are they only doing 26 or 26 per book?

I can't wait for Ang to come back to Korra when she contacts the previous Avatars. I miss Momo.

MOMO!!!!

One of the things they don't have to do with this series, that they had to do with Airbender, is set up all the things that being the Avatar means. I think this gives them a chance to jump into a storyline and have it move along more quickly.

I think they're only doing 26 total. They were contractually obligated to do more episodes after avatar, because usually a series is longer and this is what they decided to do.

There should be two chapters, though I don't know exactly how many episodes there are in it... I trust the writers to be able to make it move along smoothly, though. The last few episodes had some really exciting fight scenes! I wish there'd been a new episode this week!

I've only recently watched the first season of Avatar, so I'm holding off on Korra for now. From what I've heard Korra is too romancey for my tastes - love triangles make me so sad!

As long as you don't post competitor links or links to illegal things, you're good.

Spoilers from episode 7

it is. any money on tarlock being amon? the whole equalists thing was a convoluted ruse to enact pro-bender, anti-flexo policies. i wouldn't be surprised if the bending removal has something to do with bloodbending.

The part when the kid revealed that korra liked mako was perfect. She REALLY needs to meet with aang. I'd say that's the biggest problem with the show so far, that the ramifications of the past are more interesting than the present (albeit not by much).

Also, that was a really nice office she destroyed!

If Tarloc is not Aman, I would bet big money that he's working with him closely. It makes too much sense.

And taking Korra at the end? HOLY JEEZIE! I have a feeling only Beifong will be able to rescue her, or she's going to go into Avatar state for the first time.

Now here's a question, we all know that there's iron in blood. Why is it that only water benders can be blood benders?

Oh, and I can't wait to find out why/how he can bend when it's not a full moon!

Last and certainly not least, I love that we're seeing more and more of Ang in Tenzin!

Humans are like 70% water or something, so it makes sense.

I bet it's a father/son dynamic or something

But shouldn't metal benders ALSO be able to bend blood? Just a thought.

Iron is too pure for it to work i think. It's what binds the oxygen atoms and are surrounded by carbon. too pure and too little iron to work.
