I like the original best

I love the original, but I love Johnny Depp's character in the new one. The crazy, sarcastic personality makes it amazing to me
11/23/2011
The original. The new one was a complete joke. Johnny Depp needs to just stop, him and Tim Burton.
11/23/2011
The new one was okay? Gotta love the original.

The Johnny Depp movie was the best, the Gene Wilder one was only slightly amusing. Wait, strike that, reverse it.

I think it'd be AMAZING if they replaced Wilder with Depp. Or, like, exact same story and lines, but use Depps lines instead of Wilders.
11/24/2011
Oh man, the original Gene Wilder version was a lot better!
11/25/2011
Gene Wilder was of course better!
11/25/2011
I really didn't like the original. The new one was ok.

Gene Wilder is amazing

The first one will always be my favorite.
The one with Johnny Depp is a lot closer to the book though.

I like the original one a ton better!

Original.

I think Wilder was a better Wonka, but the sets, most of the kids, and the Oompa-Loompas were so different from the book that I never got into it as a kid.
Johnny Depp appeared to be doing Tasteless Joke!Michael Jackson + internet understanding of Asperger's Syndrome, which equaled weird in a creepy way. You didn't want the children to be alone with him ever. Also, I know Roald Dahl was a dark and twisted man, but the factory in Burton's version was so... Brand Burton. It looked like his factory was lit by Itty Bitty Booklights, and for such a lover of beauty as Willy Wonka is supposed to be, it seemed incongruous.

I agree with you on the visual appearance of the newer movie. Also, I just love Gene Wilder as Wonka in the earlier film.

The original Willy Wonka was a perfect film. I don't understand why they would try and "improve" upon that.

I like the original

I've never seen the original one

I like them both equally, for different reasons. I saw the original when I was about ten years old and I loved Gene Wilder's acting, but you can tell Burton put a lot of thought and work into the reboot. I like the little changes, like the goggles design and the addition of a brief backstory and such.

I don't mind if a movie is different from the book as long it's a good movie. Things change from medium to medium.
I won't lie, I'm tired of Tim Burton's work... I so LOVE some of it... but there have been a lot of "misses" for me. Sometimes I feel like it's just his "style" slapped on something and it's starting to seem generic and uncreative to me. :/
And I have all sorts of girlyboners for Gene Wilder, and that movie started it for me when I was a kid.
Biased.

I hate both of them

There is a special place in my heart for Gene Wilder. Watching him is watching a master artist at work. I've come close to sending him a drunken thank-you note via facebook, just for being awesome. I still think it would be a nice thing to do.
I miss the days when Tim Burton was interesting and fresh. I'm over it. I'll go back to his classics, and skip all the new stuff.

The original was by far the better of the two.
12/06/2011
I love the oddness that Johnny Depp brought to the movie. The old one just kinda creeped me out to be honest.
12/06/2011
I haven't seen the new one yet but I know I'd still prefer the classic.
12/06/2011
they both had pros an cons so i couldn't just pick one or the other. but they are both good movies.
12/06/2011
The original is just awesome.

creepy new one
