Dancing with the Stars. Has it become a POPULARITY contest...not a Dance Contest?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
Good, to GREAT dancers being bumped and mediocre dancers, who have a "fan" following staying. It may be entertaining, but has it lost all credibility as a DANCE contest???

Pretty sure it was always a popularity contest.

What the rest said. Also, if you want reality dance on tv, skip DWTS and go straight for SYTYCD.

In a world where Jersey Shore is considered entertainment.... I dont think anything has any credibility anymore.

That's certainly the impression I've always received from Strictly Come Dancing.

I disagree - the ones that get to stay do dance better. Have you been actually watching the show? J.R. Martinez and Ricki Lake do dance much better than the others, and are still improving every week.

I haven't watched it at all this season, but I thought it was always a little too subjective and fan-fueled.

As soon as I saw the headliners for this season I vowed to never watch it again. Nancy Grace, Chaz Bono AND Ricki Lake? Give me a break. (Not that I don't admire the balls on Chaz Bono for doing what he's done in life, mind you.) It's supposed to be Dancing with the Stars, not Dancing with the F-List.

I like your "illustrations."

I have no idea, though. I've never watched it.

My Man and I have certain shows that cause both of us to yell "NOOOO!" and lunge for the remote. Wheel of Fortune and Dancing with the Stars being only two of many.

Of course it's a popularity contest, it doesn't matter what judges say, the only thing that keeps pairs in the competition are audience votes.

It's always been a popularity contest. I quit watching after the first season. I was really bummer that John OHurley didn't win that one.

My mom has been watching since the first season - and yeah, it's always been a popularity contest.

Definitely a popularity contest. I love Carson Kressley. Even though he kinda sucked at dancing, I wish he stayed in the competition longer just so I get the entertainment from him
