For example: if someone loses a match and sends you a message talking crap, do you report the message?
I'm asking because I find that a lot of gamers frown upon this, but I do it every time.

I know for sure that i've gotten 2 people suspended for long periods of time simply because they wouldn't stop harassing me and verbally abusing me online because they lost a match.

i play wow and i will definately report a guy for being an ass but i will warn them first so they have the opportunity to stop because i have been unfairly reported myself a couple times

Not really, unless someone is literally going out of their WAY in a game to TK me or something, but if it is an opponent I don't care. And if anyone sends me messages, I don't report it, no point for me, I get nothing out of it personally, so I don't waste my time.

I don't play online games, but if someone was going over the top, yeah I would say something.

Yes, I report all kinds of abuse, not just verbal abusing. I report gold seller spam, botting, and any other kind of scam.

I only do it if it is an extreme case.

I check to see if it's against the TOS, and then I let them know and warn them. If they decide to keep doing it, their loss besides, repeatedly reporting people for things that aren't technically against the rules can get YOU a temporary ban! Better safe than sorry.

I do report people if they are cheating and being ridiculous about it, like cheating in a way that totally ruins the game, a little glitching here and there I can get past, but something that makes it impossible to beat them, I report that, verbally abuse me all you want,I could care less, ya know?

I report people if they are being obnoxious and ruining my gaming experience. For example: booing your own team mates, etc.

I have reported people for verbally attacking my friend (making racist and sexist comments to her). She is my real life friend and I feel that it is screwed up for people to attack anyone this way.
I however do not report people for verbally harassing me. I am not sensitive and don't give a crap what people think of me online.
I feel the best way to respond is mute or kick them or gang up on them and give them a taste of their own medicine.
