Yes I do. Most of the time I find myself waiting until they come to the dollar theater. I'd rather pay the $1.75 there than $9 or more especially if I'm unsure about the movie. I'd hate to pay a lot just to hate it. However, there are some movies I like so much I'll do it and even go back again. I think IMAX prices are getting pretty crazy though!

Movie ticket prices are around $7 here. We usually go to the showing that has the lowest ticket price, which is between 4 and 6 pm at the one theater we go to. We get tickets for $5 during that time. We also regularly get free tickets from another movie theater through their reward program.

Any time other than matinee, yeah. It's ridiculous considering they make most of their money at the concession stand.

I think they are, and W/we don't care for them anyway, W/we watch everything at home.

If they were smart an hour before the movie they should make it half price to fill the theater since they have to play the movie anyway. At least that way they would fill the theater and people may buy some of the overpriced goodies.

Yes I have not been to the movies in so long because of this. I will only go if it is something I really really want to see.

Totally! It shouldn't cost $20 for my husband and I to see a movie!!

No...but I honestly NEVER EVER go to the movies at night. I will go to a movie on Sundays/in the morning, when the prices are a lot cheaper and there are less people going. It can be anywhere from $2-$6 cheaper. So regularly it's about $14, but on those days it is around $8-$10. And when I go see a movie, it's with friends/my mom and it's a good event to go see when you get to.

It's almost a luxury to go to the movies, I agree...but it's the price we pay for wanting to see a movie the way you get to watch them.

My only complaint is the price and quality of the food. You pay $14 to get in, or whatever, then you are confronted with paying $6 for more soda that you can ever drink and like $8 for popcorn...let's not even get started on the candy. I haven't gotten popcorn and a soda in so long at the movies...

Yes. I only see movies that I ABSOLUTELY can't wait to see on DVD (3-5 movies in a good movie year) and I always choose a matinee showing to save some money.

Yes, but I'm told that movie ticket prices are cheaper where I live than most of the USA - so maybe I don't have much reason to complain.

Back when the local theater let the family of those with my dad's job get in free, we went all the time and bought tons of snacks to sort of make up for it to the theater. When they ended that we stopped going as much, and we never buy snacks there any more. The prices went up, by 50%+, and most of the town stopped going there too.

The concessions are the worst though. They'd actually make more at concessions if they priced it normally, I think.

Definitely, We'd go more often if it didn't cost so much. I need to be pretty certain I'll like a film before I'll go.

Yes.

I worked at a movie theater for over a year and I thought they were very over-priced even though our tickets were some of the cheapest ones in the area.

What's sad is that most movie theaters don't get a big percentage of the ticket sales... which is why concessions are so expensive. It's so they can make up for what they miss out in the ticket sales.

You people are complaining about $8-10 tickets? Man, I'd kill for those prices. Theaters in Manhattan will charge upwards of $14 per ticket!

Definitely overpriced. I'd go more often.

Considering inflation, competition, and the general evolution of a movie house - I think movie prices are fine. (The movie theaters are constantly putting in new carpet, upgrading to the latest sound systems, going from analog projectors, to digital, to 3-D just to keep their audience from going to the next theater down the road).

I do think that the concession prices are out of hand, but, but again after reading a lot about the modern trends with theaters, turns out the concession stand is often where the theater recoups and profits. It's business like anything else.

Here is an interesting list that I found on the National Association of Theater Owners Association website, of yearly average ticket prices going back to 1948.

I haven't been to the movie theater in at least 3 or 4 years. It's not worth the price for me.
