Does the soundtrack influence your opinion of a film?

I find that soundtracks can easily improve my opinion of a great film (How to Train Your Dragon), or make me fall truly in love with a movie that I like (August Rush), but they can't do much of anything to salvage a crap movie (Gridlock'd). And, of course, it all depends on my opinion of the film, so if you're a secret Gridlock'd fan, don't hunt me down.

What about you guys? Do you even consciously notice the music? I have some friends who've never once stopped and thought to themselves "wow, this is fantastic musical accompaniment," but it's a big part of the film experience for me.

Yup! The music definitely influences my opinion of the movie. Megamind for example was full of awesome rock music, and I was just like, Awww Yeah! Wreckit Ralph had some cool stuff too. And if y'all have seen the Hobbit, which if you haven't you're a monster, that movie had one tune that was used over and over, but in different context. I just love music and movies in general.

I agree with you. It can't fix a movie but it can definitely enhance it.

They can help it, or hurt it. I was watching one of the offbeat John Travolta movies once, and the worst song I ever heard (or close to it) played for a long sequence, and totally ruined it.

Now here's an interesting topic... =)
The soundtrack does set the tone of the movie in a big way, now that I think about it.
I know a few of my favorite movies would have been absolutely terrible with a change in the music.

I suppose given that, music does affect my opinion of a movie.

Yes. If a soundtrack is all pop hits or classic rock, it's nothing special and just a chance for money making.

Now, if there's a score or all original music, Heck yeah!

This was coincidental timing; my boyfriend and I were just talking about this the other night. We had watched a few movies with the most awkward music. It didn't necessarily change our opinions of the movie, but it was definitely weird.

It can help or hurt, though it's not the main thing I look for

It definitely improves my overall opinion if the soundtrack is great.

The plot is why I see the movie in the first place, but the soundtrack is what keeps me watching.

Sometimes, but usually it just makes me like a movie more if I liked it in the first place.

Yes! The soundtrack heightens my perception of the movie quite a bit! It makes a powerful scene that much more moving, and in my opinion without a good soundtrack even a well written and acted film will come across as a little flat.

Sometimes overly cheesy hollywood scores get in the way for me. If it feels too obviously manipulative, I make like the film slightly less for it. I think musical scores get overdone.
