Favorite Anecdotes & Quotes

My favorite literary figure is Mark Twain. He's noted not only for his amazing novels and short stories, but also for his witticisms. I just thought I'd share a few of my favorite anecdotes of his and then ask what your favorite quotes are.

These are all Mark Twain:

"Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint."

"Cauliflower is nothing but cabbage with a college education."

"Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it."

"I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it."

After having been wrongly announced dead in the New York Journal, Mark Twain wrote in response: "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated."

I Mark Twain! I've probably read just about every one of his works.

Here are a few of my Twain faves:

"Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence in society."

"Let us be thankful for the fools. But for them the rest of us could not succeed."

"The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them."

"Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been."
