have you met a celebrity?

Contributor: dv8 dv8
I've met a lot as a fan at conventions, book/CD signings and other PR functions. Just go to Comic Con sometime and you'll run into dozens of celebrities. As a professional, I've met others at conferences, dinners and other social functions. Random sightings are surprising; they're common in airports or in major cities, especially in restaurants.

I met the Queen when I was little and that was awesome!! But I also met other celebrities like Jean Claude Van Damme who was a total jerk!!! Saw him at the Vancouver Airport and he didn't even want to sign an autograph for me and acted like a jerk.

I met the lead singer of Hedley at the PNE a few years ago and he was super cute and also nice too.

I met Paula Deen in her restaurant back when I was thirteen. I got my picture with her and everything. I also met one of her sons; he was really nice (and cute!).

I also met Harold Ramis when my family and I were touring the Tower of London back when I was 11. My dad said, "Do you prefer to vacation in foreign places with your family so people don't recognize you?"

He was like, "Until now."

XD

I'm in limbo too. I've met a number of celebrities and they are mostly just people like you and I, they're just famous.

I semi-regularly hang out with someone who is internationally famous and am very good friends with someone who is nationally recognized within his sport. (I prefer not to mention their names since we still spend time together.)

Many years back, I actually taught Shaquille O'Neal when he was still in college. He was a nice kid for the most part. A little overwhelmed by all the attention he was getting, but still pretty down to earth.

I've met several well-known authors, most recently Patrick Rothfuss. I was nervous about meeting him, because he's not just a celebrity, he's actually someone I admire.

I voted yes it was awesome, but I wouldn't say it was awesome. They are just another person like you and me.

When I was working for a company in Omaha, the owner is a very very good friend of Elton John. One of Elton's managers, personal assistants, or something like that along with Elton's niece or some close relation like that came in and I personalized a bunch of our products with Sir Elton John that was going to go in his house lol. Everyone thought it was a big deal, but I was like ok, whatever.

I don't see the appeal. They're regular people going about their day and I figure they get tired of being bombarded.

I have, it wasn't awesome, they weren't jerks, they were just people.

I was on Oprah once, a long time ago, on a panel for Child Care workers, when I was doing childcare in my home when my babies were really small. Honestly, I wasn't all that impressed, but she wasn't a jerk or anything, just a person.

I have a cousin who has had a show on a major cable food network and an dating game show. I haven't seen him in years, but we used to play together when we were kids.

I've met some politicians. A pretty well known Illinois Republican politician goes to my pharmacy, and I see him once in a while. He's a nice guy.

I run into several Chicago news casters and Weather men on a regular basis, a number of them live a town over, where the rich people live. They smile and say hi, but I doubt they have any idea who I am.

I know there are more, but I don't usually commit this stuff to memory. I've never gone out of my way to meet a celebrity. Except for when my dad took me to see Ron Santo when I was a really little kid. LOL! I got an 8X10 glossy and his autograph.

At one point, I knew all the founders of La Leche League except one. Sadly, several of them have died since then.

I didn't vote because it wasn't a bad experience but its wasn't like OMG awesome I am meeting a celebrity thing, to me they are just regular people. I met Owen Hart the wrestler about a year before he died at a charity event he was nice and a very good friend of mine babysat and still is really good friends with Aj Mclean from the Backstreet boys and his family so when I met him and his mom it was never a wow I'm meeting a celebrity it was I am meeting someone who is important to someone I consider family.

I met a few athlete celebrities selling Girl Scout cookies, actually. Thing is, I never knew they were celebrities until later. At the time I just thought that they were these giant buff guys who liked Thin Mints.

Well, I don't spot a celebrity at random then chase them for an autograph. I run into celebrities at various events and social functions.

I have met several and they spoke with me more then to many others who were "hounding them". Why? Because I didn't think they were anything more then people, who struck it VERY lucky to be making so much money doing a JOB..be it acting or singing..etc. They are PLAIN OLD PEOPLE like everyone else, not some "superbeing". Awe and "reverence" are simply annoying to most of them.

I got to meet George Lopez before he got really famous. He had mild fame at the time ^^ He was really nice, and very attentive to the people around him.

Aside from that I got to meet the members of Enuff Z'Nuff at a rock fest a couple years ago =)
