Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli

Contributor: Nazaress Nazaress
I love Miyazaki's movies! I'm not sure if I've seen any Studio Ghibli movies that weren't directed by him but the ones that I have were amazing, like Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Ponyo. I'm excited because Studio Ghibli's game Ni no Kuni is coming to America is supposed to be coming this winter. It looks awesome!

So, what do you guys think about Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli? Have you heard of Ni no Kuni?

I own all of Miyazaki's films.

You should watch Grave of the Fireflies. It's a SG movie by Isao Takahata.

I have not but I will look into it! And you're lucky. I wish I owned even one of his!

I've seen most of his films and I adore Princess Mononoke.

I like most of the movies of his I've seen with the exception of Nausicaa--the protagonist was the definition of a Mary Sue. His other movies have either been excellent or pretty good to me. I'm looking forward to the Borrowers movie that's coming out soon.

Porco Rosso is really good. I was introduced to his work through Kiki's Delivery Service.

I love Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, their movies are my favorite non-disney animated films! I've never heard of that game but Studio Ghibli has an animated version of The Borrowers due in theaters...it looks pretty cute from the trailers I've seen. ^_^

I'm looking forward to the movie but I'm REALLY looking forward to the game. It was their first game-related endeavor. It has a really neat (and sad) story. A boy's mother dies and then his stuffed animal comes to life. His stuffed friend takes him into a parallel universe where everything is the same (but different) and he hopes that in this new world, he can find his mother still living.

I love their movies. They're so great. I've only seen maybe half of all the Studio Ghibli movies, and I need very much to watch them all. I'm looking forward to the new movie coming out in theaters.

I've not heard of Ni no Kuni, but I'll look into it.

Miyazaki is overrated trash. His movies are mediocre at best, save for a couple which I would consider good. The animation is beautiful, but otherwise the stories are generally way too childish for my tastes. Even when I was a kid I thought what I was watching was too "kiddish."

Also, uhg, that art style... I always disliked it. I like cute styles, but it's pretty much the opposite of cute most of the time. D: The girls in Totoro looked like toad creatures.

Your whole comment confuses me... You're entitled to your opinion, but it contradicts itself. His movies are mediocre at best... except for the ones you think are good. Therefore, his movies are *not* mediocre *at best* since you've just said that a couple of them are *good*.

Then you say that the animation is beautiful... then go on to say you don't like the art style? Does that mean the technical aspects of the animation are well done? Because "beautiful" tends to mean "pleasing to the eye"--clearly, you can't find it beautiful if you dislike the art style.

Confusing...

Lrn2art. Animation is how flowing the lines are and how well the frames fit together. ART STYLE is how it actually looks. And WHOA, NEWS FLASH, YOU CAN PUMP OUT 100 MEDIOCRE MOVIES, BUT AT LEAST A COUPLE OF THEM CAN BE DECENT.

Technically well done is not the same as beautiful. I don't see how unpleasant styled art can have "beautiful" animation. For example, I thought that "Triplets of Belleville" had very flowing and competent animation but I would never call it beautiful because I found the art design grotesque in a way.

You said that his movies were mediocre at best. At best implies, you know, *at best*, as in, at their *best* they are mediocre. Perhaps you should be more careful with your language if you don't wish to be misunderstood.
