Is TV too graphic these days?

Contributor: Rod Ronald Rod Ronald
Over the years the FCC has kinda lowered there standards on what you can and can not see on TV. I'm never really shocked by any of it, nbut there's still some shows I have seen on basic cable that make me go "WTF?!?!"
Do you think TV has become to graphic in language and material?
Or do you think TV is just TV. Know when to shut that sh%$ off!

It's just TV. If you think a show is too graphic, you can change the channel or turn it off.

I don't presently have a TV, but I think things are basically fine (if not overly restrictive when it comes to nudity and other perceived sexual behavior) in the US.

cue namlesschaos pet peeve. The FCC doesn't control whats on TV only what on broadcast tv. Considering the amount of cable networks and people moving to watch TV shows on devices other then actual televisions broadcast TV is becoming less and less defining of TV as a whole thus saying the FCC controls what you can and can't see on TV is not only technically inaccurate but is becoming more and more part of increasing fading model of what "TV" is.

Nope. TV in the united states is not nearly graphic enough.

I voted yes just because if I had kids, I wouldn't want them watching a lot of the cartoons there are right now.

Thank goodness I decided not to have them.

Thanks for the information. I had no idea to be honest. Probably because the name is thrown around a lot when people bitch about the stuff they see on TV. Thank you for sharing.

I think it's a bit graphic. But I'm not overly concerned. I just don't like the gorefests.

It's too filled with reality TV shows... if that could be called too graphic... it's definitely detrimental to the brain cells.

Compared to our society I don't think it's overly graphic, there are THOSE channels - sure but yeah

Compare it to a past, more conservative society and of course it looks hella too graphic. But times change and social media changes to reflect it.

I don't think it's too graphic. I think times have changed, and everyone has a very different idea of what is too graphic, but luckily we have control to turn of something we don't like.

I think it's mostly a country to country thing. Things in the US and other big countries tend to be more censored about everything. Too graphic? Well, with like 80% of people having cable or a TV with at LEAST ten channels (would be amusing to manage to get a "graphic" channel), turn the channel. I think warnings are there for a reason and it's up to individual responsibility to pay attention to them.

In countries like Mexico, the news is NEWS. They don't take the time to cover up a body because the public doesn't want to see it. People die, people get used to it. But you usually will see large white sheets or news stories going onto how Britney Spears has a new weave. At least in the US...our news is censored and soft and much of our TV is censored and soft.

I do know what you mean about the standards being lowered but I think it's just changing with the times. There are a few things that do however bother me, like putting adult swim on a cartoon channel that kids generally watch.

makes it tough to monitor kids when they watch. all kinds of crap on, but they can't discriminate very well

the more we're exposed to something i.e. violence, the more we become sensitized to it. this keeps us from really understanding the reality of something.

I think it's fine, then again I don't really watch TV all that much, I'm a computer person, but I have found times where I find that some content is EASILY accessed by kids.

I don't think it's too graphic. It also depends on how graphic content is used. For instance, Breaking Bad features some pretty gruesome images, but the violence is done well and feels appropriate to the story.

Life itself is graphic, so why should TV be any different?

I don't think TV is the problem, if parents don't want their children to watch something, they need to be better parents and monitor them closer. People get too uptight about things that offend only them.
