What exactly is the difference? Seems like the same thing to me.

Autobiographies are very enlightening and provide some rich details about important events, but I prefer memoirs for their colorful, vivid expressions that add emotion. Autobiographies can be dry and boring, like a textbook.

They are similar, but memoirs are less formal and focus more on the writer/individual's feelings and thoughts. Autobiographies are more heavy in facts and chronology.

Ah, okay. That is sort of what I was thinking, but I don't read either type, so I wasn't sure.

All I can think of is memoirs getting turned into those "based on a true story" type movies where people die, everyone cries a lot, and then the screenwriter wins an Oscar. (Ahem. *bonks inner cynic on the head* Don't mind me...) *grin* *snicker*
Thank you for the clarification. I prefer fiction for entertainment reading.

I like Memoirs because it feels like they are talking to you. And autobiographies sound so formal.
