Stranger In A Strange Land

I would like to highly recommend this very interesting Scifi classic. I've been reading this book because I heard it in part inspired the Polyamory movement. This book really thinks outside the box and it is VERY funny and witty AND moving. Definitely a must-read.

I find the political and rhetorical theories of man and religion more interesting - Heinlein's sex scenes were rather dry even though his other Future History stories included consensual incest and communal marriage ... there were indications that his wife Virginia may have actually been more in control of those novels.

I love that old bastard Jubal Harshaw, though; I think Leo Kern would have been an excellent choice to have played him in a movie version.

I liked Stranger a good deal, but I groked polyamory even without Heinlein's nudging. I enjoyed the politics in Moon is a Harsh Mistress a lot more than the religious discussion in Stranger (though I read them both when I was in my late teens---maybe it's time for a fresh look?). I do agree with Chili, Jubal's a lovable man.

And for sex scenes, Friday was my favorite.
