I'm a huge HUGE Jeremy Brett fan. What a beautiful man...and what an actor. I really feel like he breathed life into his performance even when he was very ill. I'm also partial to Peter Cushing because he's one of my favorite actors in general.

If any of you pick Matt Frewer...you are dead to me. Just kidding, but he was absolutely terrible.

As for older generation Holmes it goes without saying that Rathbone was the man that each successive actor was compared to until Brett's portrayal. I happen to enjoy Wontner's take on the character. Very stiff but with an acidic tongue.

Oh man, I'm kind of excited about Sherlock Holmes 2 coming out in December. I'd say I'm more of a fan of Robert Downey Jr, and the director Guy Ritchie than anything. Unfortunately, it's been a while since I read the books. I kind of hate to being one of those people who likes the movie and not the book (it doesn't happen often, I swear!), but yeah, Guy Ritchie. He does so much awesome stuff.

Unfortunately, the only person I know on this list is Robert Downey Jr. Not complaining though... boy is he ever sexy! Him + Jude Law + Me= Heaven <3

Totally loved Michael Caine's version in Without a Clue. He and Ben Kingsley as Watson had perfect chemistry in the alternate take of the mythos.

Me too! Great writing and good acting.
I was disappointed by the "cliffhanger" ending, but I have read that a second series has been given the thumbs up. So I can't wait to see more.

Interesting choices here. I'm surprised by the amount of Robert Downey Jr. love.
Kudos to Chilipepper for liking "Without A Clue". Great Comedy!

YES!!! Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman... I knew I would love it sight unseen. Plus, I just like saying "Benedict Cumberbatch," which might just be the greatest name of all time. I've been known to scream it...

Since Sherlock Holmes 2 (with Downey Jr.) is out this month I thought I would give this thread a bump. Since there are so many actors that have played Holmes on stage, radio and in film if you're personal choice isn't available there's always "Other".

Downey. I've not seen a few of the other ones, but of the ones I have, Downey captures Holmes' more petulant, playful side better.
