Why didn't you like it? :D

Contributor: DreamWolf DreamWolf
Well, the movie is Avatar, and I must admit that I think it is one of the MOST AMAZING movies ever!!!

But I remember that I had two colleagues who didn't like it, saying "it is too unrealistic" - and that was enough for them to say it isn't a good enough movie... Yeah, I know... But anyway...

Is there a reason why you aren't in favor or that movie? (Just curious, you never know, there are always so interesting thoughts out there, to broaden your knowledge... ^^)

The visuals of the movie are stunning - I wish it had a story to match

I think I would have liked it more if I hadn't seen it while on an awkward date haha

Maybe I should go back and watch it again.

It's just another movie about how a guy from a colonizing country (state, city, civilization...) becomes part of the colonized country (state, city, civilization), realizes how ~*awesome*~ it is there, and then saves them, living with them Happily Ever After and becoming their new leader.

It was beautiful cinematography, though.

It took me a long time to watch it. When I finally did it was not bad I would watch it again.

not a movie/Hollywood fan - I don't remember the last movie I went to see. I see bits and pieces of movies that my family watch at home (one of the Harry Potter movies is on now).

The movie is essentially the combination of Pocahontas and Dances With Wolves, both of which I don't care for either. The whole movie felt incredibly preachy; I couldn't get sucked into the movie and it's plot because all I saw was the writer/director's political opinions the whole time.

In short, I didn't find it entertaining.

The film was decent enough, but I found the story to be pretty basic.

Pretty much my thoughts on it too. I didn't care much for "Horton Hears a Who" either, for the same reasons.

It's the same "white guy joins a native population, they love him, he saves them from other white guys" story that's been done a million times.

There's no denying that it's visually stunning, though. The landscapes are very nice to look at.

As many have said, it's the blue Pocohantas. I never felt surprised by anything that happened in the film because a large portion of the plot retells itself in your mind through every colonization movie you've already seen. It is visually spectacular but because I was never in suspense or wondering what would happen next, I just couldn't connect with anyone in the movie. So I really didn't care about what happened to them since I had no one to really cheer for or be intrigued. So it really felt like it just dragged on and on. I would probably like it if I was very high though.

Does anyone ever feel like this is the 'softcore porn' version of geekdom? You could admit to liking this and not really be called a geek, yet anything 'harder' and it's 'dude, you're such a geek!'

...I'm not sure if you mean Avatar or Avatar: The Last Airbender but both were pretty good (though Avatar: The Last Airbender strayed from the animated series in a few crucial points that kind up annoyed me at times).

It was all right, not something I'd go out of my way to see again. Don't love it, don't hate it.

Seems kind of strange that these guys hated it because it was "too unrealistic." Does that mean they basically hate the fantasy and sci-fi genres altogether? Or did they mean unrealistic in another way?
