I'd choose the $5000. With that spare money, I could devote every penny of my paycheck to bills for months on end, and still be able to enjoy myself.

I wonder if someone would honestly choose $1000 over $5000. I've got to pay my bills somehow anyway, I'll always be able to find money for that. But how awesome it would be to spend $5000 all on myself!

5,000.

First purchase: Moderate sized tv, new computer, and put enough up to buy a new console when the next generation ones hit.

Second purchase: Some travel with my camera.

I would choose the $5,000 dollars. I never really get much for myself I always pay bills and take care of the kids before myself. It would be nice to not have to pay bills out of that money. I would also get the kids something too because it would not feel right.

I think the $5000 sounds good. My partner and I have enough income to comfortably cover our bills and daily expenses with some left over to build a moderate savings account. However, because we choose to save everything we can, we don't have any money for ourselves. I've only bought two pairs of jeans since I was in high school...and they were 60% off at American Eagle. I'm also wearing glasses that are 4 years old and they've been broken for 2 years.

I need some new stuff.

$5000..I'd buy a car for myself, I do consider that a luxury/enjoyable item because I've never had one.

Do I have to blow it all at once, or is spreading it over a few months considered 'saving' it.

I would have an EXTREMELY hard time buying only for myself. I can think of lots of things I would love to have, but I feel selfish if I get anything for myself that isn't necessary.

Eh...two weeks...$5000...only on myself!? It would be tough..like, really tough!! I might be able to handle it, but it would be difficult. What about things you and your partner could use together? Would that be enough of a 'you' thing?

$5000 on myself. I have too many things on my list that need to be done for me. Plus, I'm then not draining house expenses for them.

I'd pretty much do the same. As much as I could use $1k for necessities right now, I'll get by and it's tough to pass up an extra $4k.
