7 health hazards hidden in college dorms

Contributor: Jul!a Jul!a
We all know that living with someone in close quarters can help spread colds and things like that, but a lot of college students sometimes forget about that. This list isn't the be all end all of things you should be on a lookout for or do in your college dorm (or other small shared quarters), but it's at the very least a good start.

Anybody have anything else to add to this list to help keep our college kids on the top of their game as they go back to school in a few weeks?

i think meningitis was 1 of the reasons why so many schools are getting rid of the old style of dorms (you know, where you have to share a room w/ another person & a bathroom w/ the rest of the floor) & building apartment style dorms instead. meningitis shots are also required for some schools before attending. i had to have a meningitis shot before they would let me live in the dorms my freshman yr. i stayed in 1 of the older 1s & lucked out by not being assigned a room mate all yr. i actually liked living in that dorm WAY more than the 1 i lived in the next yr. i had a blast & so did everyone else i have ever talked to who lived in those dorms. you meet more people than in the apartment style dorms. flip flops were my best friends when i had to shower.

Sleep is gonna be a problem for me... I've been bad about sleeping in 2-hour stints recently

I had to get the meningitis shot, too. They had just changed the requirement, so anyone who had gotten it before 16 had to get it again if they were staying in the dorms.

Eww. And they are expensive, too! At least mine was. Better off looking for off-campus housing, if you're lucky enough to have a car.

Im a college freshman, and find my self cleaning a lot. I live in an all girls dorm, and still the kitchen, the lounge, and my room get really messy and gross. But other than that I really like living in a dorm!

I'm in college and thankfully I don't have to live in a dorm, as it's a community college. Huzzah for free room/board from grandparents...for now!
