Personally, I do not see how it's any different than murder. We execute someone for killing someone? How does that make sense? I dont believe there is a person alive that has the power to sentence anyone to their death. I also do not believe they should have it off as well as they do. They are better taken care of than our elderly or even our veterans. I think we should take all of the convicted murders and child molesters (guilty beyond reasonable doubt) and send them overseas. They want to kill people? Cannot be saved? Send them to war. Let them go fight the fight our innocent and brave are fighting.

I think it is something that is needed in the system to help use as a deterrent.

It is not an effective deterrent, though.

I'm for it in rare situations, not as a daily punishment.

This confused me; QUOTE: I think we should take all of the convicted murders and child molesters (guilty beyond reasonable doubt) and send them overseas.

Send OUR problem people to other countries and let them deal with them? Don't you think that if murderers and rapists were given a weapon and a uniform it would increase War Crimes against innocent people in already war torn nations?

What about when the wars are over? Just leave the criminals there and let them run amok, again, in a war torn area?

I can't imagine the complete clusterfuck that "solution" would cause.

I think we need to do it more often! Some people are beyond rehabilitation and stacking them up on top of each other in prison isn't doing any good! Especially, when prison is an easier life then the outside world. I strongly believe in a eye for an eye. And I think there are more crimes that should be punishable by death other then murder. Rape and molestation should be punishable by death if it's proven you absolutely did it with DNA or other evidence, not just he said she said. I don't think people who take away others rights deserve their own rights.

I'm personally for it. And I'm talking about cases where there is 100% evidence.

For example, near where I used to live, there was a small boy who was killed by his mother's boyfriend. She had left her son alone with her boyfriend while she went to run errands. The boyfriend physically abused the little boy (breaking bones all over his body), sexually abused him (left a lot of DNA evidence), and eventually killed the little boy.

I don't believe people like this should be able to live or live comfortably in prison.

And the death penalty might not be an effective deterrent...*BUT* it gets these predators permanently off the planet so they cannot victimize and hurt other people.

And prison hasn't proven to be effective in rehabilitation.

Depends on the crime and the evidence.

To be honest, I'm on the fence about it.

It depends. I used to say I was firmly against it, and I still lean that way, in part because there are so many flaws in the way it's implemented (the statistics on race are quite shocking, if you look them up). One thing I find interesting--at least after having taken a class on genocides--is the fact that it's almost always thought of as a domestic issue, when in my opinion the people who are potentially most "deserving" of it are international figures--war criminals and the like. These are people who are theoretically supposed to be using their power to protect others and are instead using it to torture, rape, and kill far more people than a private citizen ever could. Plus, there's really no question of evidence in cases like this. I'm sure the issue could be debated, but in situations like that, my gut reaction is that it's fair and right.

I actually heard a really interesting argument about why the death penalty ISN'T an option in cases of rape and molestation--specifica lly, that would-be rapists who know they could face the death penalty if caught would then be more likely to kill their victims to try to cover up the crime. I personally found this a really persuasive argument, because while I find rape absolutely abhorrent--probably more abhorrent than some murders--I can see how this could be a serious problem.

And?

The primary goal of prison is to incarcerate, not to rehabilitate.
