This may be a show of "age", but how many of you recall cars with no built in A/C?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
My first two cars did not have A/C and it was an expensive option on my third.
Anyone else old enough to remember when "all cars" didn't automatically come with A/C???

Even the 70's cars I've ridden in have AC.. I'm not sure about cars that don't.

Remember it? I still own a car with no AC, manual transmission and windows I have to roll up myself. Very cheap because it was my first car.

I don't remember any of our cars not having A/C.

The only car I have been in that didn't have it was a car from the 60's that my ex had bought to restore. I hated that car lol. I don't care how much of a "classic" it was, it is not worth driving around in the summer with no A/C.

I don't even know what A/C is. But my mom almost only ever had old cars, so it's probable I rode one without an A/C. So, no I didn't know, but I didn't know it existed either

In the 70's it was an "accessory", and an expensive one at that. I priced a Chevy Nova, that brand new was about $4800(yes, really). However, the A/C "option" would have been almost $800 more, if recollection serves. It was an insanely expensive option.

I assume you are joking? A/C is AIR CONDITIONING.

You would have had to, just a few short years ago, when there was none!

My mother had a classic Grand Marquis when I was young, I'm not sure of the year, but I'm sure it didn't have it. Between that and old farm trucks/equipment that it was normal for me to ride in, I can't remember being in a vehicle with air until I was about 10 or so. Even in cars that have it, my family tends to roll the windows down instead - we like breeze! We also tend to have bad luck with our car's air systems - my mother's rather new van only has decent cooling if you're going over 30!
