It's one thing not to support the war, it's quite another to not support the soldiers.

I agree. My son is entering the armed forces in about 1 month. I've seen many EF posts out there from those with spouses serving. We own them our gratitude and support.

What about the innocent civilians murdered in the embassy bombings and the world trade centers? You don't think the ones who perpetrated these atrocities wouldn't love to do it again?

If we allow these religious zealots to have their way - you would be in a burqa with no education fearing every day that your father or husband did decide to attack or murder you because you 'dishonored' them. It happens everyday!

The world has been a dangerous place since day 1. It's just naive to think that we can survive in this world without a robust military.

I was almost a military wife. You gotta support the men and women in uniform

I absolutely don't support the war, but that's not my call. The President made that call and soldiers are just following their Commander in Chief.

I support the troops with every fiber of my being.

Wow, no support for our soldiers yet you want to live in a free country and have all the rights you can.....okay then?
Two of my cousins are in the military, one is a high ranked drill Sargent, owns a purple heart, the other is a year into the Marines.
Just wow, I don't even have anything else to say to this....

The way I see it is that if it weren't for them we would have a serious war on the homefront, since they keep us safe and help assure what freedoms we still have. So I support them. I certainly wouldn't want to be in their shoes, because I know a lot of men and women who have fought for this country, including my father, grandfather, and a few other relatives. All, good people. So, I do support them all. They do what they do, so I can do what I do

I don't support war--let alone wars I think are founded on lies and deception.

However, not supporting men and women who've chosen to do a job that MANY would rather die than do is ludicrous. You can bet there are people in the military that do not actually support the war they're fighting--but they've made a commitment to do a job, and they do it.

It's like saying you don't support fire fighters because they let parts of a building burn so they can save the rest of the neighborhood.

I may not like the way the government is being run in some ways. But I do support our troops.

Going to back up everyone here. Our troops keep us safe and fight for us. It's ludicrous not to support them. They do things that they have to do in order to protect and defend our country, so we have the right to do as we please. The least we can do is support them. They don't pick to start war they follow their commands. We should support them even if we don't like what they are fighting for.

What about the poor civilians who look innocent and yet they have a bomb strap under their clothing and the blow up themselves killing many people innocent or not? What about the men and women who go over there and are killed by these civilians?

It's a volunteer military; everyone who enlists, wanted to. I would rather they defend our country than some other place, but I support them completely.

Tell your son myself, my family and most of the country appreciate his sacrifice to keep us all safe. It is a very selfless choice and I appreciate his hard work. He's a brave young man.

I don't like war. I think we should try to avoid with everything we have. But, I feel the soldiers, by and large are good people who really love their country and the people in it and are doing what they are doing to protect home and country. I shudder to think how vulnerable our country would be without a strong military with good hard working soldiers as the most important part of it.

(And this is from a strong Left Wing Liberal who supports The Occupy Movement, has resentment for the 1% and hates war. I still support the brave men and women who risk or even lose their lives to give ME the right to say what I like.)

I don't like the idea of war; I don't think anyone does. But the soldiers have no control over whether the powers that be in a particular country decide to go to war or not. I support them wholly.

I have never disagreed more. While I don't support the war, I will always support the men and woman who sacrifice so I can sit here and complain about my government, and everything else in life that isn't so bad.

I think enough people have already expressed my sentiment. I'll just lighten the mood by saying I really thought this thread was going to be about having a military/uniform fetish. Oiy I think about sex too much.

Indeed. I do not like war in the least, but the soldiers themselves have my full support. (Except of course those that are found committing war crimes and the like. Those guys suck.)

Also, "smiles frowny"? What???

My ex's grandmother started a great program where any regular person can sign up with her and send Canadian soldiers who don't have any family some care packages so they aren't so lonely. A little boost of support for those who may be forgotten.

As my husband is one of those "oh the mighty wonderful soldiers" who you're talking about who's currently away from his wife and his newborn child to support your freedom and fight for the rights that allow you to make threads like this, I can only say this:

If you don't want to stand behind your troops, by all means, stand in front of them.

I've seen my husband for 16 days in the last 14 months, and our 9 month old little girl has seen her father for 11 days out of her entire life. So with that said, I'm going to just x out of this thread and stop myself from saying anything else I might regret.

I lied. I came back to edit that with a nice big

Yeah, all those poor people who have the choice to get murdered by their own government. But the thing that bothers me the most about this is the expression of pity for those serving. Save it. It's a fully volunteer military, and they neither want nor need your pity.

Say what you want about the government, but only a few schoolyard bully types end up in our military. The vast majority only want to do something good with their lives and for the country.

The school-yard bully types don't make it through Basic training. They're the ones who always get weeded out.

Looks like once again another inappropriate topic. I know we are all entitled to have our opinions but some of the things you post are offensive and disrespectful, I really wish you would think about things before posting. It's just bringing the mood down here......atleast I think so....and to me that isn't worth the 10 points you get to begin a discussion..........

I know that's true for the most part. A lot of them say they're going to join up as a power trip, then get broken. I've known a few scum who made it somewhere in the military, but they were very, very rare cases (and one was eventually dishonorably discharged).
