Another kind of military question: is there any moral education for soldiers before they are sent off to fight? :D

I am so curious and dying to know how it goes nowadays!

Do soldiers have to go through any ethical/moral training, exams, practicing (whatever similar) before they are allowed to go off to kill?

They are trained to kill so you can be safe to post inane questions. I know I'm going to get a ton of flack for saying it - I'm just calling it as I see it.

My son starts basic training a 2 weeks. I have do doubt that we have given him ample ethical & moral training - and I'm just as sure that they will reinforce what he's already been taught.

Are there bad apples - yes there are. But there are many more bad apples who work with us and walk along side us every day.

The press just gets the biggest high out making our soldiers look bad.

When was the last time you read a story about how many civilian Afghans have been saved by our brave soldiers - it happens every day, but you never hear it do you?

Don't fall for the selective negative reporting that plagues our daily news reporting.

"Go off to kill"?! Really?! Our military is well trained in all aspects. The way this is worded is like implying they are Nazis and just go off killing everyone in sight with no mercy. How disrespectful! I bet if you had a family member that served or is serving you wouldn't post such things about the military here. It's not worth the 10 measly points to post the nonsense.

Hello! The phrase "go off to kill" may be inflammatory, but it does not imply that any one is anything. Please do not put words into other people's mouths. What it does imply is the original poster is not from the United States and has little knowledge of our military.

Let's treat this as a teaching moment and help her understand what the United States Armed Forces are trained to do, who they protect, and what they have afforded the American people and others around the world.

This post is a prime example of how others see the actions of the United States military. Please keep an open mind and discuss the subject calmly, rationally, and most importantly - without flags.

I would just like to say that I am greatful to all our members of the military whichever branch they serve! I repect them and acknowledge their high level of discipline! They are trained to be respectful!

I agree that the media tends to find the bad rather than the good nowadays. And a huge part of that is trying to make our soldiers look bad, when they are really just out there to save lives.

I know some losers who are in the military, but I know some strong, amazing, good-hearted people who want to make this the best country they can in the best way that they know how. Besides, lumping every one of them into gun-wielding lunatics wouldn't even be accurate, considering there are SO many "jobs" you can have in the military. It isn't all about death and destruction, it is about trying to create a positive tomorrow.

So really, being against the military is kinda like being against freedom and happiness. Without them, we'd probably all be nuked
