I had a manual for a short time and then went to an electric. If I recall, printing from those was insanely loud and a pain in the ass. Not that the manual ones were great because if you made a typo you were screwed.

Manual typewriter - Smith and Corona one, no less. Wish I still had it, that thing was awesome. I was about eight when I taught myself how to type.

I didn't see a computer until elementary school and there were key boards. We had Apples I remember.

On a computer, with a typing program....But, I hated the program. Over the years I have just learned with muscle memory where keys are and I have become a super fast typer!

We had an Electric typewriter at home where I would play around on and started to learn how to type. But I officially learned on a computer keyboard in school with a typing program.

My uncle works as a computer specialist for the government, so as long as I can remember, I've always had a computer (black screen-green/white), as well as computer parts laying around.

So, I learned on a keyboard, but I did play with a manual typewriter a lot at my grandmothers magazine office. So both I guess.

My dad had an electric typewriter that he used for work, and when I was as young as 3 or 4 I would type up whole pages of gibberish. When I was a little bit older, I started copying passages and poems out of books that I liked.

I was still practicing the hunt and peck method of typing at that point, but I was getting quick about it.

When we got our first real computer, my mom bought me a game that was supposed to teach little kids how to type. I played it all the time, and now I type like a pro!

Other. I believe it was a Word Processor. Sorta like an electric typewriter, but different. Although I did have an electric typewriter at home - the typing class I took in high school was with Word Processors.

I learned how to actually type, not using the hunt and peek method, on a computer but prior to that I used both manual and electric typewriters.

My parents had (and still do), one of those really, really old manual typewriters. The kind you'd be able to identify a letter written on (like in a mystery) because of the key alignment

Well. Technically, I typed on both electric typewriters and a word processor before ever using a computer, but the actual "typing class" I had to take in middle school was with a computer. Even then, that class never really helped me to be able to type. That "Home Keys" thing just hurt my hands all the time; they were too cramped up. As long as I was looking at my fingers and I had a long time to do it, I could do the Home Keys thing, but it was actually hanging out in chatrooms and typing there that got my hands in a comfortable, flowing position.

Starting in elementary school, I played with my parents' manual typewriter. I learned to type in high school on manual and electric. I learned to type fast on a computer keyboard in my mid 20s.
