I know my way around a needle and thread enough to not cause injury to myself...and to reattach a button or close a small seam, beyond that I'm not going to claim any particular expertise.

For some reason, my mind jumped immediately to "sewer," like the place where the ninja turtles live, and I was wondering what strange, new slang I'd been missing out on.

I wouldn't say that I'm Martha Stewart, but I'm competent enough to make a full piece of clothing - I've done a catsuit and a top or two, as well as a couple of dresses. Nothing major, but a bit beyond pillow cases. =0

I read sewers as like, the underground sewer with a manhole cover or it had some hidden meaning. But now that I have my mind out of the gutter, I do sew. I wish I did it more often or was better at it, but I don't.

High five! We're twins!

Also, plus one for literal "mind in the gutter" pun.

I'm a sewing novice. I stick to small things and simple articles of clothing for the time being.

I can sew well, even make my own slopers, but I haven't been able to do it in years. I took a theatrical costuming course in college & learned everything from the ground, up. But, I haven't had any fashion sewing training. Still, I can make my own patterns, etc. I wish I had a good sewing machine! But then, I would just be adding another hobby I don't need, when I have so many other interests I never get around to doing!

I, too, thought the discussion was about sewers in the ground & opened it because it seemed odd!

My wife is completely useless with a needle and thread. I can sew a button - but that's about it for me.

I sew my buttons back on. And when I was younger my mom helped my make a drawstring satchel on her sewing machine.

But I'm not a sewer.

Me too! I sew pretty often, when I have free time. I just finished a little turtle bag.

This was my very second bag -- the stitching could've been a lot better.

Lol. & here's a stuffed owl I sewed for the little girl.

I am also almost finished with a funky owl dress I sewed -- a bustier top dress. Found the pattern online called "bustier top dress." Lol. Just have to add the zipper now. It's pretty cute & I'm actually a little proud of this one. It's a royal blue color on top & I chose a funky green colored fabric on bottom with owls on it. It's a little strange, but I like it & it's comfortable.

Sewing is a really fun hobby for me & I enjoy making things for people, even though it isn't always a perfect stitching job. it's a blast making clothes & stuff as well. It's kind of relaxing to have a project to sew.

Same here!! I was quite relieved to see what the thread was actually about.

I'm somewhere in between "I can sew on a button" and "I make small things." I've repaired torn seams, and even done a little alteration to a couple of clothing items. That reminds me--I need to take in the seam on the other cup on this awesome XTC vinyl collared bustier that I've had for ages and never worn, because the cup seams came to an unattractive Madonna-style point! The first cup came out great, nice and rounded...

i know my way around a machine but am by no means a seamstress! I do get some ideas for crafts though and will draw up a pattern and sew it together. I enjoy sewing a lot actually, and wish both of my machines were in working order so i could work on larger projects. I hand sew pretty often, mending holes and sewing patches on to my partners clothes to pass the time.

Big projects are not really my fortay.

I'm a pretty decent seamstress when I want to be and have made blazers, wrap around skirts, with both simple and more complex patterns. Today though it's usually just quick hemming with a needle and button reinforcing.

I sewed quite a few things when I was younger. I haven't sewed anything in a long time now. I'd like to get back into sewing to make myself a nice dress.

I laughed when I read this. I thought it said "sewers" as in "Sewage" or "drain pipe for waste"!!!!?????

Since you are asking about Sewing, I admit I can sew on a button or hem a skirt, maybe cuff a sleeve, but that's about it.

The oddest part of this, for me, is that I am very good at sewing a different specific "material", but it's not, I suspect, what you are talking about!

I can sew, but I'm not the best. I can make quilts, pillowcases, curtains, simple stuff. No fancy details though.
