Anyone familiar with hotels?

I'm attempting to book a room for a few days for a surprise visit with my girlfriend.. she lives in the area I'm staying, but I'm sure she'll want to stay in the hotel with me. I booked a room in a hotel for 3 nights and it said max guests 1 adult, and when I changed it to two, all of a sudden that hotel wasn't available anymore and the prices doubled and were no longer under 100 dollars for a night.

Is it against hotel regulation to put 1 adult staying and have someone spend the night with you? I've done it at a Hampton and they never seemed to have any issue.

You can do one person, but they have your credit card number they can charge more to it, just like they do if you steel the towels.

What my friends and I do is put one person down and then sneak in about three or four more people. We're poor, so we do what we have to do. As long as you're not destructive or incredibly obnoxious, the front desk won't find out or charge you.

For a married couple, it just seems ridiculous if you're still sleeping one bed, you know? The extra person shouldn't be worth 50 extra dollars per night
