Of course, in high school I worked for a local hotline to help teens, as an adult I support rallies and vote...not that my vote helped, I live in North Carolina.

Sorry - had to opt for the "..."

Usually, when I hear "ally," I think "straight ally." A straight ally isn't part of the LGBTQ community insofar as the person is heterosexual, but is allied to it. But I'm not -not- an ally. (This isn't to say that straight people aren't welcome members of the community at all - we welcome everybody!) But I digress.

I do volunteer work to support the LGBTQ community, but as I generally understood the word "ally" to mean "straight ally" in this context, I don't really fit under that. I'm about as straight as a bucketful of rainbows.

I'm queer and on the trans* spectrum, so I'm not an ally so much as a part of the acronym.

My best friend was a lesbian in high school (I know I said was, it's complicated, she was pretending for attention) and I used to go to all these meetings with her for support. I learned more about this community than I had ever imagined.

I don't know why I said all that ^^ up there, but I guess given that this is a yes or no question that I would consider myself an ally. I don't go out and push for rights of anyone or anything, so I guess maybe I'd just be a supporter?

I have no idea, lol, I just like people and want everyone to be happy and get along!

I'm an ally of the LGBTQ community, although I confess I can't recall what the difference between 'queer' and 'lesbian/gay' is. So I guess I'm technically an ally of the LGBT community.

Absolutely. I try to support in every way I can, and speak up when nobody else is there to speak up to LGBTQ folk.

I am "B" in the acronym, and while I am bitter that many forget we are a part of the community, I do support our rights and work towards achieving them.

Not that I've done activist work but I really do want gay people treated equally.

In so much as I believe that a person's sexuality and their choices should not be legislated, yes I am an ally. As a polyamorous person who has heard many Gay/Lesbian couples speak out against legalizing marriage for me, I am not. I do not campaign against the community and I accept people who who they are regardless of who they sleep with. I will always support any person's right to sleep with and marry whomever they wish to. It just seems silly to me to feel superior to or to hate someone who loves differently than you do...
