Are you more open and honest about yourself and in discussions over the internet?

I noticed after replaying to a post yesterday that I am more open and honest about my opinions, life and problems when I am on the internet. Specifically here on EF, where I feel I can trust the confidentiality of the members.

--Is it the anonymity?
--Not having to see the person you are talking to?
--Too easy to type out hings on the computer?
--Other?

Yes. Being anonymous is nice and if I tell you about my opinion or sex life or whatever, it doesn't have the possibility of getting back to someone else I know. I love being able to rant on the internet and not have anyone actually know me. And if people don't like me? Who gives a shit, it's the internet. On the internet you can also meet likeminded people who share the same interests and won't shame you for things that IRL people will.

Not having to directly face someone or worry about 'tone'... Plus you can take your time and think before you type so you don't mess up what you mean to get across. I know atleast one person who for some reason since not long after I met them online, I felt we could chat about anything. Maybe had to do with THEM being so open about things?

I'm open and honest about everything no matter if it's online or in person. I find that I discuss things easier online because the right questions are asked and conversation is flowing. I don't just open up and dump things on people in general, it all depends on what's being asked in person.

I'm always honest whether it's in person, online, over the phone, whatevs. If I have something to say I will, otherwise I'm usually pretty quiet. I do find it easier to talk to strangers on the internet than in person though. If I'm talking to someone who I don't know all that well in person I have a harder time thinking of things to say or questions to ask and then I feel awkward because I'm trying to think of something, but can't and nobody's saying anything. *sigh* I hate when that happens lol.

Good question! On the net, to me, it's like speaking to myself. Yes sometimes I get other opinions, and if I don't like them, I brush them off like they don't exsist.

I know everyone I speak to on the net is really of course, but I don't have to face them, they don't personally know me, and it does seem to make a difference.
