What do your hands usually look like? Are you more of a self-groomer (chewing) or do you keep your hands neat and clean, with a pretty nail polish to top it all off?

For my job, I keep short nails with no paint. Before I got my job, I would have fake nails made into claws.

I used to bite my nails entirely too much. I got fed up with it and just started painting them to help me stop. Before then, I never painted them. Now they're decently long and always a bright color with a clear coat on top. As of last night they're red with white tips.

I like my nails longer and natural. They are always filed smooth cause I can't stand rough edges snagging on things.

But I have a bad habit of putting my fingers/nails in my mouth; not chewing them, but playing with them when I'm online or when my hands aren't both active. That in return weakens my nails and they will sometimes peel or split at the sides. So as much as I don't really like nail polish on my finger nails, I sometimes use it to stop me putting them in my mouth - particularly when the polish is new on cause then I don't want to chip the crackle polish and have to re-do it.

I generally bite my nails to keep them trimmed, largely because using a clipper to trim them feels extremely awkward (though I have no problem using one on my toenails), but I make sure to wash my hands before doing so, and I spit the nail bits out rather than swallow them. Having to use a clipper when I had braces was sooooo annoying!

My nails are super short since I don't like the tip of my nail to go beyond the tip of my finger - I hate it when my nail is able to bump into something before my finger can! I love to paint them, but I seldom do anymore. When your hands are going in and out of fish tanks several times a day, nail polish just doesn't last.

I keep them filed, that's it. I must be rough on my hands b/c even when I have them done professionally, they're chipped within 8 hours. So I don't bother and certainly don't pay for it. My toes, however, get the royal treatment.
