Baby Names: How did you name your children?

Contributor: jmex83 jmex83
Was there any unique meaning or sentimental significance to naming your children? Did you choose a name that just sounded good?

My wife and I went through thousands of girl names before we came to our first daughters name. It was one of those names that stuck out and it was like "AH ha! Thats the one!"....Same with our second daughter. It just had a ring to it. Then, the middle name for our first child together was one that wasn't part of the family yet. We didn't want anyone to think we named her after them and have any sorf of hard feelings with anyone. Our second daughter, we combined both of our middle names "Ryann" Pronounced "Rye-ann". For Ryan and Ann. So theres definitely some meaning behind their names. What about yours?

My husband and I wanted our son to have a unique name so he wouldn't be one of five or ten kids with his name at school. We started looking about a month into the pregnancy. It wasn't until I was eight months pregnant that we found something. My son's first name came from an anime series my husband and I both love. It's translation means "peace." Technically it means "big piece," but people giggle when I say that. I'm sure my son will have fun with that in college... His middle name comes from a character in my husband's favorite video game. It's the name of a mythological god of thunder in history. I'm quite pleased with his name. It's cute but different.

I chose my sons first name from the Bible. Malachi (pronounced Mal-uh-ki) It means sayer or speaker of God. I mainly chose it because I loved the sound of it. His middle name was after my dad.

We have future names picked out.

If it's a girl, we name her after my love of literature. Dagny Lorraine Lee. Lorraine is a family name on my side, and Dagny is the name of my favorite heroine from my favorite book.

If we have a boy; we name him after B's love of science. Tycho Charles Lee. Tycho is one of his favorite astronomers, and Charles is a name that each of our fathers, stepfathers and grandfathers share.

Both names are very special to us, and they reflect a piece of ourselves, and a piece of where we came from.

I love family names and was always disappointed that my mother named me after some Hollywood star (from the 40s & 50s) - a name with no significance. Both our son and daughter have beautiful family names.

All my awesome baby names are girl names. I really like more masculine names for girls, my favorite of which would have to be Noa. Most of my name ideas come from wonderful omen I have had the pleasure of knowing throughout my life.

I really like unique names as well. My future potential offspring will NOT have a common name. I was named after an animated mermaid and I love that.

Our sons first name came from a combination of both our initials (A and J = Ajay), and his middle name is the city of my husband's favorite college football team. We chose to name our daughter after our favorite president (Reagan), and for her middle name we're giving her my mother's middle name (my mom died when I was eight, so needless to say I upset both my sisters when they realized I had either one of them from ever using it).
