My boyfriend's kids went back to school this morning, his youngest (twins) going into full day first grade and his daughter (middle child) starting her first day of middle school. He was being a proud dad sending me pictures of his daughter in her new first day outfit that it took her several days to pick out. This got us thinking and talking about what we wore for 'back to school' and we could both remember what we wore on our first day of high school - for me it was easy, I went to parochial school so it was a uniform, but I can remember the dress I wore on the first day of junior high. He wore a Clash shirt, some ridiculous pants, and brightly colored sneakers but it was the mid-80's when he was in HS so I can't hold it against him.

Does anyone else remember what they wore their first day of high school? Or junior high?

I remember the first day of High School I wore blue jeans and a Rolling Stones T shirt, with the lips on it. My first day of first grade I remember I wore a knit mini dress, with pink and green designs on it, with a beret! I spilled milk on it at lunch (we went home for lunch) and I remember crying. I didn't want to change, because "I'll be the only kid who wears something different in the afternoon." Then my mom realized none of my dressed were clean or fit me, so she wanted me to wear PANTS (girls still often wore dresses or skirts daily until the weather got cold where I went to school) and I was mortified. PANTS? I remember hiding behind my bed, saying I wasn't going to change. I wanted to wear a milk soaked dress. I don't remember what I changed into, though. It was warm, I probably wore shorts.

I took pictures of all my kids for their first days of nursery school, Kindergarten and First grade. After that, they didn't want me to take pictures.

I remember wearing the outfit that my mother sewed for me-It was a vest and skirt matching outfit. We used to sing "Back in school" in music class-My mom was my music teacher.

Awww, how cute!! His daughter still lets him take pics, as do the little ones... he kept telling his 16 year old he was going to walk him to the bus stop and hold his hand, just to mortify the kid. I guess that's one of the privileges of parenting?
