Bored of the forum?

I you. Always have, always will.

But yes, as much as those of us who put work into the forums (i.e., Community Developers like Sam and Gary, the admins, club managers, workshop hosts, etc) would love for more people to participate, we also realize that not everyone loves the forums.

Dusk was already here when I joined the forums. I have missed her presence here since she dropped off (WHATEVER her reasons may be). We may not always see eye-to-eye (who always sees eye-to-eye?) or agree, but that doesn't mean that we can't respect/learn from each others' POV.

I'll ask this because this has been a huge topic of conversation amongst those of us who put work into the forums...

Aside from finding a way to eliminate/reduce repeat threads and Spam... what else can be done to attract you to either clubs/forum conversations/etc.?

I'm in the Pacific Time Zone as well, and I understand totally how the meetings can be very difficult to make. That said, there are ways of being involved with clubs that don't involve attending the meetings:

Eden Photographers has photo critiquing.
Eden Cooks has the Iron Chef Eden Challenge.
Eden Lives Healthy has had a healthy recipe contest and ongoing healthy living challenges.
Eden Lit's Writer's Club has erotica that you can write.

These things take time, of course, but they can be done on you schedule and you can still participate. Anyway, just a suggestion.

A bit off but can you tell me when a US tv channel says that [insert show name here] starts at 9/8c does it actually start at 9 in New York, 8 in Dallas, 7 in Denver and 6 in Los Angeles? Or they shift it so LA gets it later so the ones on the east coast get to watch it sooner? How does this work?

Anyhow I guess you could follow the club meetings and events on a smartphone.

When they say: 9/8c it does, in fact mean that it starts on the East Coast (NY) @ 9, in the Central time zone (Chicago) at 8. However, for the Mountain and Pacific times (Denver/LA) I'm not entirely sure how it works. If it's broadcasting live, then yes, it works just like that (9/8/7/6). However, regular broadcast shows may be different, and I'm not entirely sure HOW it works; but I do know that I've had friends on the West Coast say to me "Shhh, don't talk about it, it doesn't start for an hour (or two)!" But I can't remember the time frame.

Thanks! Anybody from the west coast can provide some insight too?

I can't speak for the Mountain Time Zone, but in the Pacific Time Zone, our shows would start at 9 under your scenario (unless it is live, of course). So, for example, Family Guy starts at 9 Pacific Time on Sundays out here (just the same as on the East Coast), but a football game that starts at 1 pm Eastern time would start at 10 am Pacific time.

Yeah some channels have a west coast feed or they show their primetime shows again three hours later. That means you can either watch something at 6 pm that was on at 9 EST or you can watch it at 9 anyway.

Aww, I didn't know anyone missed me! Partially I've been really stressed out at my job, so it's nothing against the forum that I haven't been around as much. I basically babysit college students and we've been having a ton of issues since finals are this week.

I think partly I get sick of browsing the first five forum pages and seeing the same threads I saw five months ago (but usually duplicates created since then) and not feeling like inputting my opinion is going to be worth much a second or third time around. Then with the clubs it's been hard to attend meetings since I have school and a job with specific hours and obligations and reading through them afterwards feels like I missed out on half the inside jokes in a conversation.

I honestly don't know how some of you find the time to attend practically everything that goes on here! I think it's wonderful, but I realized after a while I couldn't schedule my life around Eden.

I don't. Being a stay-at-home mom and BROKE makes me available!

But there are actually LOTS of things I miss around here because of time constraints, so I understand. I attend MY clubs, Community planning stuff, and I'll occasionally catch a meeting of some of the other clubs if I'm around and not busy with my home or my kids at the time.

The only thing I'm bored of is the layout. I hate having to scroll to the bottom to make a post. I wish we could make a post, and then maybe have a drop down menu to select what category we want to post it to. That would save a lot of time. If they could make Eden a little user friendly that would be awesome.

As far as topics go, they're getting better everyday from what I can see. Users who are on 24/7 might say differently. But I spend a few hours 3-4 doing homework, while checking up on my Eden profile and I think the topics are great.

My fiance would also like to comment that the layout could be different. I wonder if there's someone we could contact to make these suggestions?

I personally have never been bored on the forums. I am still fairly new, and have not read everything. It's hard to believe I ever will since it is so vast! I really enjoy reading the forums in my spare time. Even the older posts are interesting to me. I am constantly finding new and interesting threads to read! Just last night I found the Eden Lit thread and spent a good 3 hours reading stories submitted by users. Very good and talented writing BTW! I only wish I had more time to go thru the forums!

I get pretty bored on the forums, but I don't really take the time to go through the other clubs or anything very often. I can't attend most meetings and I don't like to go back through pages and pages. I can't really think of an improvement, it's just how I feel. I know they do their best too.

exactly what BBW said, I am a sahm and I can jump on my laptop pretty much anytime, and still look after my son. And when I miss something I just catch up and put in my opinion.

It would be good to merge all the posts that are about the same thing together. Or to have the ability to ignore stuff. This way we can see what interests us.

No, I don't get bored of the forums, though that's mainly because I'm relatively new here. But I can see where you're coming from. I remember one discussion on teenage sex, commenting on that, and then another thread about teenage sex popping up a day later. I couldn't be bothered to comment on it.

I asked a question about that very thing a few days ago. After a while, can anyone actually think of new topics. This many people...eventually it HAS to become "old, rehashed" questions. I guess new people come and go, but indeed, ANYTHING new becomes old after a while. There are only so many things strangers, anonymously, can "talk about" on a blog sheet.
