I have never been to a bar where there's been a fight. The bar I usually go to is mostly made up of regulars who know each other, so fights are strongly discouraged. I wouldn't get in a bar brawl unless someone I know is involved, and even then not to throw in a few punches of my own.

Used to we with people that would carry weapons into the bar, leading me now to keep my nose clean and remember that you never know who is straight up crazy out there. Best to tend to yourself.

Unfortunately used to have a friend that would instigate fights (even at MetalFest once), so I have broken up a half dozen fights just thanks to him.
Also worked pit security for concerts when I was in school and learned to pull people off each other fast and carry them away. (And I was about 5'0" 150 lbs at the time; breaking up a fight is not a function of size.) It is really just a matter of reminding people that they are being idiots. If they don't take the hint, then you let the big guys squash them.

As an ex-bartender, there are many fights I broke up--they went outside to do their damage.

I won't. I'll walk right out if I see a bar fight. If it's my own family -_- I probably would hit them upside the head to knock them out of the fight, which I've had to do before...
