Can you read and write in cursive?

Contributor: sillylilkitten sillylilkitten
I remember learning cursive in elementary school, and being told that this was the way we were going to have to write from now on, but that obviously didn't end up being the case. Can anyone still read and write in cursive?

Yes I can. I learned to read cursive in the first grade and learned to write in cursive shortly after. I've been teaching one of the kids how to read and write cursive the past couple of months. Not going so well.

You know, I still cannot figure out why the extra learning of cursive writing was ever necessary. I probably wasted months of my time in the first grade learning that crap. LOL. I just never did see why it mattered, although I do write in cursive when I have to sign my signature, but only because it's the "proper" way to do it.

I have heard that elementary schools are discontinuing cursive writing! What a strange concept! I remember it being the center of my world in second grade.

I learned in school, but never had good handwriting so eventually started printing. Still can read and write with it though.

I use to only write in cursive but no one could read my writing at ALL, so I trained myself to stop. Now my writing looks more like graffiti somehow. I can still read it but I definitely can't write anymore, not without a LOT of effort haha.

Yes, I can read and write in cursive. It's so sad the younger generations have been deprived of this basic skill.

I can read and write in cursive, sometimes if I'm going to write in it I'll have to think on it for a second just cause I never use that skill, lol.

I read and write cursive better so than even printing. Though now I tend to use my PC and type out what I have to say. Still all the many years in school, I don't think I'll ever forget how. I still take extra care when I do write to do so neatly and evenly, painfully so. It's probably why I'm not a good note taker.

The schools in my area are thinking of discontinuing it. I think that's kind of crazy.

I personally write in what I call cur-print. It's a mix of the two, I'm sure a lot of people don't appreciate it.

I can, but I dont do it that often. I write on prints all day at work, and you cant use cursive on prints. So out of habit I write the same way at home as I do at work.

Yes, I don't know anyone who can't read and write cursive. My everyday writing is a mixture of print and cursive. I think most people are that way.

I can read and write in cursive as well as upside down and backward pages. I do not know of anyone who cannot--but do live in a very small town and it is not discussed as a normal topic.
