Cheap Liquor

Contributor: Entropy Entropy
I used to be a bartender. I've heard literally thousands of stories and anecdotes on why you should avoid "rot gut" liquor. When mixed with anything (especially soda), the taste of alcohol is killed to a large extent, and it becomes difficult to detect the subtle qualities of expensive liquor. I drink the cheapest vodka (Kamchatka Vodka) about twice a week, and have never had any worse of a hangover than when I drink Absolute, Grey Goose, or Sky. Am I a freak of nature, or are there others who share my refusal to pay more for the same buzz with the same hangover?

i bough the cheapest vo-deka once, it was like rubbing alcohol unless mixed with juice. it cleaned out my coffee maker pretty well and gave a boost to pasta sauce.

If you're drinking it on its own, I think it makes a difference in taste for sure. For me, if I'm planning on mixing it anyway, I don't really care. Some of my favorites are the cheap stuff because I can drink a bunch of it and it doesn't give me a horrible hangover.

LOL! I imagine rubbing alcohol from a drug store is even cheaper

I only drink my bourbon on the rocks, so I will stick with my expensive brand. Other cheaper brands make me nauseated just smelling them. I drink Crown. Just discovered Crown Black and it's REALLY strong! I've found myself having to add water to this as well as ice.
