Cold & Flu - What medicines work best for you?

Contributor: Stinkytofu10 Stinkytofu10
Every year during winter, I have a week-long session of intense cold or flu. I've tried a variety of medicines in the past, including Tylenol, Vicks, Robitussin, and store brands. I've also tried some herbal remedies, and just eating Zinc and Vitamin C pills too.

What works best for you when you have the cold or flu? I would like to know which medicines are the most effective in both alleviating symptoms and shortening the duration of your cold/flu.

I only take Chinese herbal medicines for flus and colds, they're better than any of the over-the-counter medicines at regular drug stores. They don't suppress the symptoms just to make you feel better, they'll actually cure the symptoms in two to three days max, while alleviating them.

The brand I use is called Tong Ren Tang, it's available at some Chinese herbal shops (located in most Chinatowns) and online. Use this one for colds and flus and also buy this for curing sore throats. I've introduced them to many of my Caucasian friends, they swear by it and always keep a box in their medicine cabinets.

Alka Seltzer or Nyquil and a lot of sleep is what I usually do when I get sick.

High potency garlic supplements and lots of fluids and sleep. I'll also throw in some sort of pain killer as needed.
