Contact Wearers!

Contributor: Kayla Kayla
So, I wear contacts instead of glasses, and I'm curious about some of these things. I've heard that some people don't take out their contacts every night, and I'm wondering what the majority of people do. Do you take out your contacts before going to bed every night? If you don't, why not and does it seem to effect you? If you don't take them out every night, how often do you take them out?

If I wear them to bed, they really bother me in the morning. When I put my contacts in in the morning it feels refreshing in a way but maybe that's just me.

There are brands that are made for overnight wear, but mine are not that kind, so I take them out every night. I have accidentally slept in them or worn them for 24 hours or more (ah, all-nighters in college), and my eyes get EXTREMELY irritated. After about 24 hours, the contacts simply start to fall out.

I invested in a nice pair of stylish glasses a few months ago, so now I wear glasses 2 or 3 days a week and give my eyes a break from the contacts.

I used to sleep in my contacts on occasion, but now I take them out every night before I go to bed. My eyes get irritated when I sleep with them in.

I usually take my contacts out, but sometimes I just fall asleep before I take them out because I'm so exhausted. My eyes get irritated and I have to wear my glasses the next day, but it still happens occasionally.

I have 24 hour contacts that are supposed to be worn for 2 weeks in all, with one day off. I tend to wear them for over a month...I'm blind enough that the old stretched out contacts don't make me any more blind. Since I wear soft contacts and my prescription is bad enough that my exact prescription isn't made in softs, I'll never see totally clearly.

I always take them out every night even though they are extended wear. My brother has ulcerated lenses in his eyes due to leaving them in and can not wear contacts ever again.

I take them out every night. I have contacts hat you're supposed to be able to sleep in, but my eyes start getting irritated after about 14-16 hours of wearing them.

You just scared me out of ever accidentally falling asleep in my contacts ever again...

If I fall asleep in mine, I always make sure to take them out and rinse them with saline when I wake up, to help moisten them back up. Thankfully I should be getting new glasses soon, so i'm hoping to get ones that aren't going to bend out of shape (the ones I have now always slip down a bunch when I look down at all.)

I always take out my contacts at night. If I leave them in too long, they dry out and I start to get a pretty bad headache.

I need to buy more contacts, since I'm pretty sure my irritation with the pair I've been wearing is because they're a sample pair. Or sometimes there's a fluke pair. I know that them being samples probably doesn't have anything to do with it. But either way, my contacts are extended wear contacts, and I'd just wear them until they were uncomfortable, then take them out for a few days, and wear them again. But the pair I have out right now irritates the hell out of me and I can only wear them for a few days, so I've been wearing my glasses since like, February.

I have accidently fell asleep with my contacts in before and it's not very fun. I woke up with red blood-shot eyes and my eyes were so dry it hurt to blink. It's really important to take them out before you go to sleep but the truth is I've done it before. It didn't kill me but I'm sure it's not good for your eyes! You probably shouldn't do it!

i used to wear contacts and not take them out for weeks, and then accidentally put in a second contact without noticing the first.. got an eye ulcer nearly and had to wear a patch and had a ghoulish eye for a bit. I got better about taking them out, but now I just wear glasses cuz they're cheaper.
